Houston and the Hurricane (part 5 NO SEX)

10/8/2012

I hadn't even made it 5 feet through the front doors
of Bourbon Street bar and Grill before Angel's high
heeled figure click clacked it's way to me. She thrust
her hips to one side and put her opposite hand onto her black
shorts covered hip "so does he like me or did he just
fuck me" The look on her face warned me that if i didn't
answer the question quickly and correctly I would regret
it the rest of my life.

My mind travelled through a million possible answers that
would probably get me killed or worse. I decided in the end
that the best thing to do was throw poor Jason under the bus.
"his birthday is in April and the whole party was a
ploy for him to be able to get to know you" (Yup i know
I am a dick like that.) Her brown eyes got big as my words sunk
in and a smile slowly began spreading across her face.

Her lips parted and she clucked her tongue against the roof
of her mouth "is that a fact?"

A picture of my friend lying in a pool of his own blood covered
in high heel wounds sprang to mind. I felt the pang of guilt
creep over me and dreaded facing my friend after she was
done with him.

"are you mad" i asked with a wince. I was fully
expecting her to fly off the handle and start yelling at
me in Spanglish.

Angel put her hand to her chest and smiled like she had just
one the Miss America pageant "I can't believe
he did all that just for me" she said in complete and
utter shocked happiness. "he is such a sweet man to
do all that just to spend time with me" She spun on her
heel and seemed to float away towards the doors leading
to the restaurant kitchen.

"huh?" I asked to no one. "I really don't
understand women at all" I muttered and made my way
to the raised stainless steel bar.

My pounding hungover head was only made worse when an overly
peppy Christie showed up for her shift. The entire night
she wanted to talk about how fun the party was. She went on
and on about about the great time she and her boyfriend had.
She even went as far as to tell me about the Roman role playing
game they had in their bedroom after they got home. Just
for the curious she called it "Roman soldier and maiden
who couldn't pay the taxes" (you picture it cause
i don't wanna)

The night seemed to drag on as Christie rambled on about
her sex life making my hangover ten times worse then it should've
been in the process. At around 11pm i told her she could go
home due to lack of business and was grateful when she agreed.
I let out a sigh of relief as she finally walked out the front
door and turned my attention to closing down the bar hoping
Gene would shut us up early. I was in my own painful head wondering
if Angel was crazy, Daniella and I would see each other again,
and how it would be when Robin and I worked together next.

"hey homo" Said a voice at the front of my bar.
A sudden wave of panic started at at my toes and slowly crawled
up my body like a snake slithering on a vine. I lifted my head
to see Robin smiling at me from the other side of the bar.
Her fingers drummed on the clear plexiglass bar top impatiently
"who's dick do i have to suck to get a drink around
here" She said bluntly thinking it quite funny.

"um" I stammered not sure how to respond.

"oh stop being a girl and just make me a drink"
she goaded. I did the only thing i could think of to pay her
back for trying to be funny, i made her a prairie fire drink.
She coughed and choked as the tequila and tabasco slid down
her snarky joked filled throat. She looked at me through
watery eyes as the fire burned down into her stomach. "you
happy with yourself" she croaked. In response i started
to hum a happy little tune as i went back to washing my glasses.
She sat quietly recovering from the harsh drink i had served
her and looked over the bottles of liquor behind me.

"I want you to give me an electric orgasm" She
said coyly. I looked up at her placid face and tilted my head
suspecting this was a setup. Instead of playing into her
diabolical hands I fired back "I wanted you to give
me one too but your dad stopped that from happening"
An evil smile spread across her face before firing back
"if you could cum like a normal person you could have
gotten what you wanted"

She let out a little laugh "just make my drink douche
bag"

I mixed up the electric blue cocktail and poured it into
a large martini glass before setting it in front of my sexy
attacker. She used her cocktail straws to stir her drink
while staring at it as if it were about to do something fascinating.
"so did you manage to relieve the pain i caused"
she asked. The question took me aback. I wasn't sure
if she meant what i feared she'd meant. I mean we had
always slammed each other sure, maybe we had even flirted
in a weird abusive way. But as i navigated through my thoughts
i suddenly feared that maybe I had missed some sign she had
given me. If i told her about what happened with Daniella
after i left her would she hate me? I mean it's not like
i had planned it happening or anything.

I was just starting to walk down the panic road when she spoke
again "listen we were drunk" She shifted on
her barstool and went back to staring at and stirring her
drink. " what happened happened" she went on
to say. I however was not sure what she was trying to say "what
happened happened?" I thought to myself "what
the hell does that mean"

"I don't want us to be all weird now, and i sure
as hell don't want a relationship anytime soon"
She took a big swig of the shockingly blue drink before continuing
"if we decide we want to have a little fun then we will"
She looked up at me and set her face into a serious look "absolutely
no strings attached" She finished her drink and held
out her glass insinuating she wanted a refill. I silently
mixed her another drink as she went on to tell me that while
she found me cute and occasionally funny however i definitely
was not her type. "Thanks for the ego boost"
I muttered

She laughed as i handed her a new drink "don't
get me wrong" she said cocking her head "you
got a lot going for you but i like older men" I thought
about her words for a second and for some reason felt the
urge to convince her of the fact that I was her type. I didn't
really have any feelings toward her other then friendship, well
that and a great attraction for her wonderfully shaped
ass. However in the face of someone telling me i wasn't
good enough my ego just wouldn't stand for it. "I
am OLDER then you" I reminded her.

She downed her drink and held it out again to let me know she
wanted another. "I am talking daddy issues older"
she told me unashamed. "I am not saying we won't
fuck cause i can pretty much assure you we will, just don't
expect anything else" The bluntness and unabashed
honesty Robin possessed never ceased to surprise and shock
me. She had an oddly realistic way of looking at things and
explained them with the same blunt realism the rest of us
preferred to avoid.

Robin's words ran through my mind and i had to shake
the thought of her riding someone more then twice her age
out of my head. I am in no way able to judge anyone for what
they like or don't like. Over the last couple of years
i have found myself in situations that some would look down
on me for while others would hold me in high esteem. The fact
that Robin preferred a more "seasoned guy"
actually allowed my ego to let go of it's fruitless
attempt at making her swoon for me.

"I am sorry I left you hanging though" she told
me as i handed her a new drink "no strings attached
though so you CAN go out and find someone to take out your
frustration on" She took a sip and licked the blue
off of her lips "i am sure you can talk your way into
someone's panties" I just laughed in response
and let the little tiny bit of guilt i had felt drain out of
me. Since it was no strings attached there was no reason
for me to admit that i had in fact taken said frustration
out on Angel's twin sister.

We switched gears and started talking about the party and
how we had almost been caught by her father. She told me that
he hadn't seen anything but a strange vehicle and two
shadows in his driveway. I was relieved that there wasn't
going to be a hit put on on me by her angry father. We chatted
a bit longer about nothing as i wrapped the bottle pour tops
in plastic wrap to keep the fruit flies out. I was just about
done with the closing duties when Robin threw some cash
on the bar top and jumped off her stool "blow ya later
jackass". She turned giving me a view of her ass crammed
into her tight jeans and vanished through the bars front
doors and out into the muggy Houston night.

As if karma and cruel fate had followed me all the way from
Minnesota and conspired to make my life more complicated
the door opened again and in came Daniella. My heart skipped
a beat when i thought "if she would have come in 5 minutes
earlier this could've gotten interesting"

She was dressed in the same red halter and dark denim capris
she had been wearing when she left my house earlier that
morning. She faltered when she saw me before quickly collecting
herself flashing me a sweet smile. Angel came out of the
kitchen door as if the two had timed it down to the second
and click clacked toward her sister across the drab tiled
floor. When they were within a foot from each other they
turned their backs to me and began whispering to one another.
I couldn't hear what they were saying over the loud
Zydeco music playing over our speakers. Whatever it was
that they were saying was causing them to be extremely animated.
Two sets of arms and a whole lot of dark hair was flying everywhere.

I absentmindedly finished what work I could leaving on
our frozen margarita machines or lights in case any late
customers decided to show up. I wondered if something had
set the twins off and was starting to review in my mind the
things that would happen to make sure I wasn't any part
of the cause. "No that's stupid Daniella wanted
to spend more time with me" I consoled myself. Angel
seemed flattered that Jason (forgetting my part in the
deal) had gone to such lengths just to hang out with Angel
in a non work situation. "must be a sister thing"
i concluded.

"HELLO MY LOVELY EMPLOYEE'S" Scott shouted
as he walked in with a tall attractive dark skinned girl
in tow. I had seen the ebony hottie several times over the
past couple weeks at lunch and a few times on the weekend
nights. I couldn't remember ever making her a drink
however nor could i remember actually talking to her. When
Scott noticed the twins and more specifically the one he
had been hitting on all during the party he stopped. Something
flashed across his face for a brief moment before shrugging
it off and pasting the smile back on his face. He looked around
the empty restaurant then up towards my bar. "was
it dead tonight" He asked.

The twins had almost completely ignored him and moved away
from him and his companion to continue their conversation.
"yeah it was pretty slow tonight" i called back.
He said something to the girl he was with and they made their
way toward me. "give me a shot of goldschlager and
a miller light would ya" he turned to the girl "you
want a coke" She nodded in response. I made their drinks
knowing that I would not be getting tipped nor would he be
paying for either. Having his family own the place had privileges
after all.

"Dave, Princess, Princess, Dave" Scott said
introducing us. She stuck out her hand and we shook.

"like it's totally nice to meet you finally"
came a valley girl voice i hadn't expected in Texas
"Scotty talks about you guys liiiiike all the time
and it's totally cool to finally meet y'all"
The last word was the only clue that this pseudo valley girl
lived in Houston. For the next 10 minutes my ears were bombarded
with with valley slang the likes of which Buffy the Vampire
slayer had never heard. I was utterly fascinated and amused
to hear this girl talk. It was like a combined dialogue from
every bad movie about cheerleaders, California girls,
and high school popular girls all rolled into one. She just
happily rambled on about how she love the place and how nice
the people where. She fawned over how great "Hotty
Scotty" was how great the food was and how great the
music was and how great the ambiance was and how great the.......
My head started to pound again while Scott beamed and agreed
with almost everything she said including the "sha
right you knows".

Thankfully Daniella and Angel saved me by wandering to
close to the bar, like two unfortunate swimmers caught
in a riptide they got pulled in. Seeing my chance to escape
I grabbed two 5 gallon buckets and bolted for the ice machine
tucked back in the kitchen. I took my time shoveling in the
ice and hoped that Scotty to Hotty and his valley girl would
be leaving soon. It wasn't his night to work so i prayed
they would be leaving soon to go watch "Bring It On"
or something similar.

I went through the "out" door of the kitchen
when they walked in the "in" door assuring me
of at least a few minutes of freedom. I lugged the ice buckets
toward the stainless steel monster of a bar stealing glances
at Angel and Daniella's bodies. I remembered Jason
asking me if Daniella looked hot naked, the question of
whether there was differences in their bodies flashed
through my mind. I poured the buckets of ice into the wells
just as they finally finished their long conversation.

"We want to go to the beach this weekend" Angel
blurted out. "Just the four of us" Daniella
added. As is the toga party hadn't killed my self esteem
enough the beach was going to absolutely destroy it. Since
I had moved to Houston a few months back I had done nothing
but work and work out. J and I had gone to a few clubs close
to our house and went through a tour of the massive downtown
but not much else. The beach they were talking about i knew
was in Galveston but i wasn't sure I even knew where
that was or how long it would take to get there.

"Jason and I have to work Friday and Saturday night"
I told them "And so do you usually" I said nodding
my head towards Angel. "if we go early enough we will
have time at the beach and be able to make it back in time for
our shifts" Angel replied. They told me it only took
about 50 minutes to get to the gulf and it was a straight shot
down hwy 45. The thought of these two in bikini's overrode
my self esteem issues and I agreed for Jason and I. Twin smiles
spread across their faces threatening to swallow their
ears. "It will be our first double date" Angel
squealed and golf clapped.

"what is your favorite color" Daniella asked
me. I had no idea what that had to do with anything but answered
anyway "um blue or emerald green"

"light blue or dark blue" she asked back. "um
light blue" i told her after thinking for a second.
She smiled brighter and nodded.

"ok i have to go cash out, be right back" Angel
told us and bounded down the steps toward the office. We
watched as her pony tail flicked back and forth as she almost
skipped through the door to the kitchen. The air in the room
suddenly felt warmer as Daniella turned back toward me.
Her deep brown eyes locked onto my own browns and we stood
in still silence. I think i even heard myself gulp.

"Hi" she almost whispered looking suddenly
as nervous and shy as i felt inside. "hi" I said
back equally quiet. We both shifted our weight side to side
not really sure what to say to one another or how to act.

The party the night before had been a chill atmosphere.
Everyone talked with everyone and there was never two people
alone at any one time. This meant that though Daniella and
I had talked and laughed together we really didn't
get to know each other. I can't even remember flirting
with her and i sure as hell didn't remember her flirting
with me. The fact that we had come together in an amazing
sexual explosion at the end of the night was a pure miracle.
In all reality the huge amount of alcohol we drank and the
hot sex show Jason and Angel had put on for us with out their
knowing was probably the catalyst. I am not sure if we would've
come together if all that hadn't have happened.

"last night was pretty intense, yes" She asked
breaking the silence. She tucked a dark thin strand of hair
behind her left ear looking very shy and very very cute.

A million words flowed through my brain in response sending
a another jolt of pain into my temples. I managed to select
a few and strung them together for a response "last
night was an amazing night i will never forget as long as
i live" The fact that i managed a coherent sentence
impressed even me. Her stunning looks and sexy body had
completely sunk me into a fit of passion and lust not more
then 18 hours before this moment. My back still itched from
the deep scratches she had dug in my skin with her long nails.
The soreness of my cock was evident every time i pressed
my hips into the stainless steel drink rail by accident.
Even looking at her now it seemed like the events of last
night and early this morning were nothing but a distant
dream. Had i really spent hours inside this sexy creature?

Her face brightened with my words and she seemed to relax
"i was afraid you would think poorly of me" she
said in an accented voice. It was weird that she channeled
back and forth from no accent to accent depending on the
situation.

"i was more worried that you would regret it"
I laughed "i would never think bad about you"
i assured her.

"that i would regret it" she asked looking confused

"well yeah!" i blurted out "you could
get any guy that you wanted and well" I let that last
part trail off. Apparently my self esteem issues were raring
their ugly heads again. A look of what i could only describe
as disgusted shock and disbelief twisted her beautiful
naturally tanned face. She spat out something in Spanish
that quite honestly put the fear of God in me for a second.
The long string of incomprehensible words could have been
anything from death threats to a grocery list for all knew.
What I did know was that she could be one scary girl even at
5 foot (and a half) and 115 pounds at most. This little midget
could intimidate the hell out of a pro wrestler.

"I didn't want anything until I got it, and after
i got it I wanted it" she said in a very heavily accent
stern voice. She looked almost furious and yet insulted
at the thought that she couldn't want me. I was trying
to rearrange her words in my head so i could understand them
when she reached out to touch my arm. I jumped at her touch
making us both laugh. Thankfully that seemed to break the
tension and a smile returned to her face "you are beautiful
to me" Daniella said in a smooth purr. An electric
shock travelled up my spine like it would on a high tension
line and again she made my eye twitch.

"beautiful?" I asked. Couldn't i be manly
or maybe ruggedly handsome"? I asked knowing full
well i was probably pushing my luck. Daniella let out a short
laugh and rolled her eyes. She said something else in Spanish
while waving her arms in front of her. "you are very
ruggedly handsome to me" she finished in English
" that better"? she asked.

Seeing that we were on good terms again i decided to press
on "how handsome" i asked "like aww he
is handsome, or Oh My God i want that man to take me now handsome"
I asked shamelessly fishing for compliments. Daniella
threw back her head sending her pony tail flying and barked
out a laugh. I proudly smiled at making her laugh and joined
in with her. She looked around making sure no one was listening
then leaned over the bar "i am very sore" she
whispered "i can still feel you in my stomach"

She looked down and pressed a hand below her bare midriff
wincing for proof. She looked back up at me with doe eyes
and a innocent questioning look "i have never been
sore like this, i don't know if i should be worried or
not" The look on her face seemed to ask for assurance
that I hadn't broken anything inside her. "it
was pretty passionate I am sure you will be ok in a few days"
i told her. "I am sore too, your body crushed me"

A tiny moan escaped from her lips at my words, her eyes half
closed and her body shifted it's weight again. "i
like that" she purred. It was amazing how the little
Latina could shift gears from shy to fiery, to innocent,
to sexy. I felt a painful pulse in my groin as my mind worked
out what i had and what i wanted to do to her. Before we could
slip into a sexy conversation Angel's voice warned
us of on coming company. "Scott you are crazy"
She laughed. Daniella stood up straight and did her best
to look like we weren't doing anything. I don't
know why but it seemed like we had to hide the fact that we
liked each other from everyone at the bar. Eh maybe it was
just Scott we were hiding from.

Angel walked up to the bar with Scott and Princess in tow
and gave me a quick wink. "you ready to go" she
asked her twin. Daniella nodded and after a few short goodbyes
they left me alone with the valley girl and the Iowa boy.
I finished my work as fast as i could and hurriedly said my
goodbyes to my bosses. After getting home i told Jason about
the upcoming double date at the beach and almost had to hand
him a tissues for the tears of joy it threatened to produce.

The next day as Jason and I went through the excruciatingly
painful work out routine at the gym thoughts of Daniella
circled my mind like water down a drain. One thought would
be replaced by another then questions, then another thought
then repeat. I only half paid attention to a weather report
playing on the gym's many TV's it was saying something
about a tropical storm. "I wonder if that will mess
up this weekend" Jason grunted as he worked with dumbbells.
Sweat stung my eyes as i looked up from the curl bench to the
TV, a large green and red circle filled the screen. It just
looked like a mess of color to me and from what i could tell
was far out in the ocean. "i dunno man tornado's
i understand, tropical storms i have no clue about"

That night I had to work for La Tavola so left all the plan
making to Jason and the twins. It was almost hard to pay attention
to my wine invoices thanks to the guesses of what Daniella
and Angel would look like in bikini's. As the kitchen
staff of the fine dining restaurant went about there business
i caught words like hurricane and landfall over the sounds
and smells of food being prepared. At the end of the shift
I walked out into a windless night and looked up. The sky
was calm with barely a breeze blowing "i wonder what
people are talking about"

As Wednesday turned into Thursday i found myself glued
to the TV like the rest of the southern states from Texas
to Florida. The massive white circle on the weather map
seemed to stretch over the ocean unrealistically. People
talked about the on coming hurricane everywhere i went,
in the grocery store, at my bar, at the gym. Being from the
midwest i had been used to tornados for as long as i could
remember. The sky would go green and all hell would break
loose, other times there was no warning until your neighbors
house was flying away. But this?

As Hurricane Katrina spun it's destruction across
the southern tip of Florida our weekend beach trip had been
forgotten. Angel had come into work to talk to Gene about
taking the weekend off, her family was actually going to
be leaving Houston. Daniella told me that they had actually
boarded up the windows of their house and her parents were
taking them to stay with family in Dallas. I was still disbelieving
of the whole situation as her lips broke free of mine the
night she came to my house to say goodbye. After Jason had
let go of Angel we watched their car pull out onto the road
and vanish into two little dots of tail lights.

"is it really going to be that bad here" I asked
looking down the empty road. "I don't know"
he replied somberly "our warehouse started shipping
out as much inventory as possible while shipping in as much
bottled water as we could hold" He was a regional rep
for a liquor distributer and the thought of them getting
rid of the liquor and replacing it with water was some how
very disturbing.

I am not sure what day the mass exodus started but i do remember
seeing the bare shelves in Walmart for the first time in
my life. The highways out of Houston were packed bumper
to bumper and were at a stand still. The infinite line of
vehicles minuscule progess only made slower as cars began
to run out of gas where they sat. Miss Bianchi paid someone
to carefully tape and board up all the windows of her restaurant
and gave everyone 4 days off. The Walmart across the street
from Bourbon street moved tall stacks of wooden pallets
in front of their doors and posted signs stating they would
be closed Sunday the 28th and Monday the 29th.

On the radio constant storm warnings blared while very
little music played. On AM radio people called in asking
for alternate routes out of Houston or where they could
find ice and water to buy. There were even a few people trying
to find ice to keep their beer cold while they held hurricane
parties. I couldn't guess how many people abandoned
Houston and the southern areas like Galveston and Baytown.
With so many cars still on the major highways and back roads
stuck in tightly packed traffic jams it would be hard to
guess anything but thousands, perhaps tens of thousands.

The normally bustling city became a sight out of the old
movie "Night of the Comet"

Scotts family and I being from the midwest had no where to
go and honestly didn't understand why everyone was
leaving. Jason used to blizzards and a few tornados being
from Minnesota was equally confused. Scott's family
had just put in a large food order so if worst came to worst
at least we knew where we could find food. Jason had brought
home a few cases of bottle water from his work and I had managed
to find several packages of batteries, a couple of flash
lights and a camp radio in a tiny out of the way second hand
shop. We prepared the best our inexperienced selves could
and prepared to wait out the storm.

All along FM 1960 business and homes were closed and boarded
up, a few gas stations remained open for the time being.
After filling our tanks Jason and I talked to the guy behind
the counter, he told us that people were coming in trying
to find food and anything to drink they possibly could.
Apparently there were a lot of people who couldn't
find supplies and were in desperate need. It was all too
unreal, i mean according to the news it was Louisiana and
Mississippi that looked to be in the most trouble. We thanked
the gas station attendant for being opened and walked past
bare shelves to our cars.

We drove to Bourbon Street and told Gene, Laura, Scott and
his sister Jen what the gas guy told us. After a few conversations
about how horrible it was we all came up with a plan. Regardless
of what happened with the storm we were going to try and stay
open. Gene made a few phone calls to see who was still in town
and who would be willing to work. After all the phone calls
he was only able to get a hold of Megan and two cooks. All three
agreed to come into work the following day if it were possible
to help out. "well it's the best we can do"
Gene said.

Scott had somehow managed to talk Jason and I to staying
the night at the bar in case "looters" tried
to ransack the place. We just rolled our eyes as he recounted
several instances of looting after storms and evacuations.
We figured it meant all the free beer we could drink, plus
Bourbon Street had just installed a massive 109inch screen
and projector in our party room. So free beer and 109 inches
of action movies sounded like a decent bribe. After locking
down our condo and grabbing whatever we thought we might
need we jumped in my Ford leaving Jason's car under
the carport and headed back.

The wind was starting to pick up by the time we pulled into
the desolate strip mall parking lot. Occasional strong
gusts would slam against my big SUV and rock us sideways
scaring the shit out of us. Scott, Jason and i spread out
threw the restaurant with duct tap and made those X's
like you see on TV on all the windows. We didn't have
wood so we just kind of hoped the magical tape would do the
job. In the back of my mind I really didn't think we needed
to do it all in the first place but hey what did i know? This
was my first hurricane after all.

As the night went on we glued ourselves to the news channels.
Reports of damage to and our around our city and live broadcasts
from places like Gulfport and New Orleans filled the airwaves.
We worried about our friend Jai who had moved from Minnesota
back to New Orleans about the same time Jason had moved to
Houston. We had tried in vain over the last 3 days to get a
hold of him, in the end all we could do was hope he would be
ok.

Over the next few hours the wind seemed to explode around
our building, the intensity of it was amazing. Far off to
the east of us a loud explosion boomed through the sound
of the wind and the skyline in that direction went dark.
The Walmart sign across 1960 exploded into a shower of sparks
and tiny flames "HOLY SHIT DID YOU SEE THAT"
Scott called. We all three ran to the windows and looked
into the chaotic night.

As we squinted through the taped glass we saw 8 forms tugging
at the pallets that blocked the door to the big retail store.
"See i fucking told you" Scott shouted. He pulled
away from the window and ran back into the kitchen. Jason
and I just shrugged and each other then looked back through
the window at the guys trying to move the wooden blockade.
They worked together and managed to pull the big stack away
from the door then vanished behind it. "You know i
hope Scott went to call the cops" I said.

"I did" Scotts voice confirmed over my shoulder.
The distinctive rack of a shotgun made me spin around. Scott
stood holding a camo painted 12 pump in his hands with another
laying on the table beside him. "you can't be
serious" Jason's shocked voice blurted out.
"what the hell do we need those things for"

Scott set the gun down he was holding and picked up the other
"we have to protect ourselves and this place"
he said racking it.

"it's not that serious Scott, those are probably
just " I said in utter shock that he had brought
guns into the place. There was no way i was going to shoot
anyone for trying to break in and i knew Jason felt the same
way. "they are just in case guys relax" he set
the gun down by the other and walked back to us empty handed.
We turned toward the window in time to see the Houston police,
Harris County Constables and the highway patrol pull up.
The wind battered the police officers as they got out of
their cars almost knocking them over. They struggled toward
the pallet blocked door and disappeared inside. "well
that ends that i guess"

Another loud boom rattled the windows and more of the Houston
skyline went dark "damn that was close" Jason
muttered. "think we better get our flashlights"
and with that we searched for our mag lights and double checked
that the doors were locked (just in case).

The windows of the large restaurant flexed and bowed and
the wind howled around us. The few trees around the building
were bent at such a severe angle I was sure they would break
at any moment. More reports of heavy damage along the coast
line was reported on the news and people were warned to take
shelter constantly. The three of us walked around the insides
of the building making sure no damage could be found.

Jason called out for us to hurry over to the back windows
of the dining area "come on hurry you guys" Scott
and I covered the distance as fast as we could. Just outside
the window we saw figures running through the alley between
us and the building next to us. One guy stopped almost in
front of us and turned around, he raised his hand and we froze.
Loud cracks sounded through the windows and the guy fired
his gun across the street towards the Walmart. The three
of us broken out of our temporary immobility broke in separate
directions and ducked down, we figured if he was firing
at the police it would only be seconds before they fired
back.

I stuck my head up from behind a booth and saw that the man
had vanished "i think he is gone" i called out
to the other two. Scott and Jason's head popped up and
we all looked around in search of him. Moments later several
cops with weapons drawn went running by the side windows
and vanished into the stormy night.

"HOOOOOOOLY fucking shit man" Scott shouted
with a laugh in his voice.

"This city if fucking whacked" Jason followed

"That's something you don't see every day"
I said. The other two guys laughed nervously as the adrenaline
in our bodies started to wane. We all looked out the windows
a few more times then made our way to the bar. Scott poured
us all a couple shots of Jack Daniels to ease our nerves "here's
to crazy ass Houston and hoping that bitch Katrina dies
soon" We lifted our drinks and make quick work of them.
The bars phone rang loud making us all jump "jessuuss"
Scott hissed. We figured it was his parents checking on
us. They had gone home to make sure there house made it through
alright.

Jason and I poured ourselves a few more drinks while Scott
talked to the person on the other end of the phone. When he
rejoined us he explained that it was Megan that had called.
That last boom was apparently the transformer that fed
her apartment complex with power. "She is only a short
way down the road from us" Scott said "we will
probably lose power soon" He poured himself a drink
before telling us the rest. "she is alone and scared
shitless and i kind of told her one of us would come pick her
up"

All three of us looked out the windows in time to see a small
tree finally give up it's fight and snap in two. "Who
is going to be dumb enough to do that" I asked. As if
the fuckers planned it they both turned toward me "fuck"
was all i could say and took a drink. Scott gave me the directions
she had given him and her cell phone number so i could call
when i got there. "assuming the cell towers are still
working" i thought.

With all the stupidity i could muster and with the help of
my two "friends" I slipped out of the front doors
and ran to my Ford Expedition. I wrenched the door open and
jumped in the driver seat "that wasn't too bad"
i thought. The wind seemed to be dying down a little bit "maybe
it's almost over" i thought stupidly. I pulled
out onto the desolate FM1960 and white knuckled the wheel
holding it steady as strong gusts buffeted my SUV. After
a short time I found Wunderlich Road and turned off looking
for her apartment complex I dialed the number i was given
and informed her I was here.

My Ford rocked back and forth while I waited for her to appear
behind the glass door of her apartment building. I saw her
struggle to get it open and knew I had to do something i mustered
up my chivalry (sans brains) and forced my car door open.
I jumped out and was immediately assaulted by a gust of wind
that slammed the door back painfully trapping my arm. "fuck"
i grunted and pulled my arm out letting it slam loudly shut.

I ran to her complex door and forced it open, without saying
a word i grabbed her 100 pound body and threw her over my shoulder.
She yelled out in surprise as I turned and ran back to the
passenger side door carry her like a sack of potatoes. The
door was easier to open thanks to the wind block and i all
but threw her in the passenger seat. I ran around the car
and was able to get in easily thanks to the wind dying down
again. I looked over and saw her long lightly curly brown
hair looked like a wind swept birds nest. I started to laugh
unable to help myself as she tried her best to untangle it
from her face.

Her little chipmunk cheeks puffed out as she gave up the
fight to turn her hair back into anything normal. "i
can't believe you just rescued me like that"
She said and with lightning speed lunged herself over the
center console and wrapped her arms around me in a tight
hug. I felt he little cheek press against mine as she squeezed
me as tight as she could. "that was so fucking cool
man" She pulled her cheek away from mine and planted
a big wet sloppy kiss on my cheek. "thank you so much"
and hugged me tight again almost cutting of my airway in
the process. "you're welcome" I laughed.

After she finally released me i pulled back on the road and
made the short distance back to Bourbon Street as fast as
I could. I parked next to a four door white Saturn that hadn't
been there when i left, i helped Megan out of my car and arm
in arm we pushed our way through the front door. I just finished
locking it behind me when I heard the valley girl "oh
my God it's like totally blowing outside, this totally
sucks" I had to wonder if she was trying to be funny
or...

Scott introduced Megan to Princess and explained she had
come to see if we needed any help (conveniently it was now
to windy for her to leave. Her words not mine). "This
night totally blows" I couldn't help myself.

"who wants a drink" Scott asked clapping is
hands together. "eh why do you guys have guns"
Megan asked pointing to the shotguns on one of our dining
tables. "ask Deliverance over here" Jason
said pointing a thumb at Scott. "you know alcohol
and guns usually aren't a good mix" Megan said
looking worried. "it's ok he is from Iowa, without
guns and booze no one would get married up there" I
quipped. That brought a round of laughs and we all bellied
up to the bar waiting on Scott to pour our drinks.

The night raged on and being well after midnight most of
us were fighting to stay awake. I picked out a nice booth
behind the bar wall and away from a window and settled myself
onto the black fake leather seat. I folded my arms on the
table top and laid my head down on top of them quickly drifting
into a fitful sleep. My dreams were a mashup of old memories
from Minnesota and Nebraska that seemed to blend in with
the new experiences in Texas. The rabbit hole that was my
dreams drug me through scenario after scenario with a new
person each time making it impossible to understand anything.
If it's true you work things out in your dreams I think
it's safe to say that I am absolutely nuts.

I woke up feeling like i had maybe slept 5 minutes as opposed
to the 5 hours i had actually gotten. I lifted my head off
my numb arms and looked around seeing if the place was still
in one piece. "mmmm" emanated from my lap. I
leaned back and looked down to find a sleeping Megan nestled
into my crotch and sleeping soundly. Her little fist was
over her mouth making it look like she was sucking her thumb.
Her long wavy brown hair was covering her eyes like a sun
shield and her knees were drawn up to her chest making her
a tiny ball of cuteness. "wait a minute why the hell
is she in my lap?" asked a voice in my head. "that's
a good question" I actually said out loud.

Gene and Laura were already back and I could hear the pots
and pans in the kitchen being rattled. Jason had gotten
up already and was helping Scott clear the front doors of
foliage that had been deposited there by the winds. I wondered
why no one had woken me up? As if to answer that question Scotts
sister came around the corner to open some half closed blinds
along the bank of windows. "oh Mr. Hero is awake"
she smiled. I couldn't get over how much she looked
like Scott, with tits. (it was fuggin creepy) She looked
down at Megan in my lap "aww she is so cute"

Megan stirred for a moment then nestled back into my lap
with a soft whimper. "how come no one woke me up"
I said looking back up at Jen.

"my brother said she was pretty freaked out last night
and didn't calm down till she got in the booth with you"
she told me "so everyone just figured let her sleep"

She told me that apparently Megan had been trembling last
night at every loud howl or far off boom of something falling.
After one particularly loud noise she her hurtled her little
self into my booth and the rest was history. So for all intents
and purposes i was trapped in the booth until she woke up.
I looked down at her sleeping form and slowly brushed wavy
brown locks out of her eyes with my finger tips. I traced
my fingers along her tiny freckled splashed chipmunk cheeks
dragging some hair back behind her ears as i went. "She
is pretty cute" I thought to myself "and even
cuter when she is sleeping"

"Megan" I said softly trying to scare her.

"Megaaaan" i said a little louder. The girl
didn't even stir, i was somewhere between deciding
whether to shake her or just call out her name in a louder
voice when a loud crash sounded in the kitchen. Megan's
eye's burst open and she looked around with the same
fear as a cat corned by a pack of wild dogs in an alley. Her
hazel colored eyes darted back and forth as if looking for
her attacker. When she settled on my face a huge smile spread
across her face, her body seemed to jump up and roll over
in one motion. She buried her face into my stomach and gave
me the tightest hug she could manage in her position.

"awwww" Scott's sister squecked "that
is so cuuuuuute" I looked at her then back down to the
girl burrowing her face into my belly. I wasn't sure
what to do so i just patted her shoulder awkwardly.

After a few moments she pulled her face away and looked up
at me with teary eyes. "Oohh ho ho are you ok"
I asked surprised and concerned she was crying. I put my
hand on her cheek and thumbed away an errant tear sliding
down the left side of her face. The smile returned to her
face and she smiled at up at me brightly "sorry".
I shook my head and told her not to worry about it before helping
her up into a sitting position. I wiped another tear off
her face before telling her everything was going to be alright.
She gave the cutest little sniffle and nodded.

"when did Megan become so adorable" I thought
to myself.

Megan was a tiny thing, She was probably 5'3 and maybe
weighed 100lbs at most, she had something wrong with her
stomach that made it hard to keep food in her system. I knew
that it was hard on her and sometimes she would break down
crying because she was so hungry. When she ate however it
would feel like her guts were being ripped out she told us.
She had gone through a few surgeries and she mentioned they
had put her on a few different medications to help correct
the problem. She seemed to be doing better lately and was
usually found during the slow times with a giant basket
of Seafood Nacho's (no really they were awesome it
was one of our best dishes in my opinion)

She had very large breasts on her small frame. Easily a large
C cup or maybe even a D cup. She liked to wear tight stretchy
sleeveless shirts that hugged her tiny body accentuating
her firm tits. She had long naturally wavy brown hair that
stopped in the middle of her back. Megan usually wore jeans
with Chuck Taylors, her only jewelry being hemp necklaces,
bracelets, or anklets if she wore capris. Her hazel eyes
were always glassy and had huge smile stuck to her face at
the beginning of every shift. (owing to her love of all things
herb.) The light colored freckles that seemed to have been
splashed across her face by a magical paintbrush made her
nauseatingly adorable.

She was one of my favorites to talk to, usually she was always
happy and cheery. She laughed easily and when she got feisty
she always threatened the same thing "I'm going
to punch you right in the face" then would ball her
little fist up and make show of trying to punch someone.
It always made me laugh every time she leaned forward when
she did that and her leg would come off the floor and stick
out behind her throwing her off balance.

Megan and I got out of the booth and went to see where we could
help. I thought it was weird that nobody thought it was weird
that Megan had curled up with me in the booth, matter of
fact Jason didn't even bring it up. That was really
weird. By the time 11 rolled around Gene and Scott had dug
our original "YES WE ARE OPEN" white banner
out of storage and were busy hanging the large trap like
sign on the building for anyone to see. We had been joined
by Princess who's family apparently hadn't evacuated
either and put her to work setting up tables. We were as ready
as we could be if anyone wanted to come in.

It seemed like half of Northwest Houston came through our
doors that day, we went through an entire weeks worth of
food in one day. We were out of almost everything by 9pm that
night and in the end had to turn a few people away for lack
of food. We closed up and all sat around watching the destruction
of hurricane Katrina on the massive projector screen.
Texas had taken some pretty decent damage from the storm
but nothing like what Louisiana and Mississippi were getting.
Jason and I were worrying about our friend Jai more and more
as the news reports flooded across the screen. I tried in
vain to get through to his parents house and his cell phone.
In the end all we could do was pray he had gotten out in time....

The next few days seemed to go by in a blur, Houston and it's
surrounding cities did their best to get utilities back
on line. (amazingly our condo was spared from power loss,
the only damage was a small tree that had blown through a
window.) Several people were left without power and some
other essentials for a week, however you could hear the
collective sigh of the city as everyone knew full well it
could have been worse. Jason had been kept extremely busy
as his company worked hard to help in the relief effort of
New Orleans donating tons of water. For the first time since
Jacie had died i found myself praying, I prayed for my missing
friend and the hundreds of thousands of people affected
by the hurricane.

Our employee's had slowly come back to find either
no damage to their families homes or in one unfortunate
case major damage. We did the little we could to support
the people affected that we knew, Gene and Scott decided
that city workers, cops, and fireman would eat for half
price from now on. We fed an few families who had escaped
New Orleans and made it to Houston for free. It wasn't
much but the smiles on their faces showed us that they were
more then grateful.

At La Tavola we worked hard to clean up the mess caused by
the loss of power. The freezer had some how been left open
and after the power had died the food had all thawed and spoiled.
Mrs Bianchi decided to close the restaurant for 2 weeks
until she could replace the food lost. She also thought
people had more important things to spend money on rather
than fancy dinners and expensive wine. She donated all
the non perishable food we had to a shelter taking in refugees
and if rumors were to be believed a large amount of money
to the relief fund as well. She told me to come back to work
at the end of the next week so i could help her with the ordering
and other things.

Being named Bourbon Street seemed to make us a draw for anyone
who was lucky enough to escape the destruction in Louisiana.
Daily people from New Orleans and the surrounding parishes
would fill up our tables and swap information or stories.
We kind of turned into a hub for them to connect and get a little
taste from home. Our main cool Lawrence was from a small
city just outside of New Orleans and had helped us with our
authentic menu. He would come out during slow times to check
on tables to make sure they enjoyed their meals or would
swap stories about home. That small gesture and the way
we did our best to help people out in anyway we could endeared
us to a lot of them.

That Friday Angel and Daniella had come back into the city,
Jason and I had been in contact with them the previous days
ensuring them we were ok. It was surprising how different
Angel had turned out to be, i had to admit to Jason I had her
figured all wrong. They twins came over to our house the
following Sunday for a little dinner and drinks and much
needed laughs. After dinner we all sat around the living
room still filled with the Parthenon columns and fake flicker
torches and watched the news. Daniella was in my lap absentmindedly
playing with my hair while i ran my hands up and down her sexy
bare legs admiring how she looked in shorts when we saw him.

"JAI"!!! Jason shouted. He stood up taking
Angel with him, she just sat cradled in his arms high in the
air wondering what was going on. I leaned forward over Daniella's
legs and squinted at the TV.

Standing on a bank looking over houses covered with water
was a tall man in a camouflaged baseball hat with two people
we knew to be his parents. "those chops are unmistakable"
I laughed aloud relieved that one of our closest friends
had survived the carnage. Jason did a little happy dance
that sent Angel's arms and legs flailing, she laughed
heartily with us as the room filled up with our jubilation.
For the rest of the night Jason and I both blurted out stories
about Jai completely entertaining the twins. That night
Daniella and I spent ours playfully teasing one another
and laughing through fantastic sex. Far off in the distance
we could hear her sister and Jason doing the same.

To Be Continued.........

NOTICE: Through the fires of hell, charred, battered, and beleaguered
comes a ray of light that brings hope and promise even through
the greatest of pain and despair.

I decided that for this part of the story I was going to leave
out the sex. In all honesty there were more important things
to worry about then getting my rocks off anyway. I am sorry
if you don't like it and apologize if you wasted your
time reading this for little or no "payoff".
As i remember these things and put words to them I try to decide
what to keep to make it entertaining and what to leave out
so as not to be a downer. During this time however, for those
of you who remember there wasn't much good to write
about. The Super Dome, FEMA, the red cross, all the mistakes
and tragedies.

So out of respect for the people I met, the stories they told
me, and the tragedy they lived I have written this without
any bow chica wow wow. To those touched by the first and worst
hurricane I had ever experienced I bow my head to you an applaud
you for strength and courage.

Once again, a great read even without the sex. Sounds like
you had a much better time than I did for Katrina, but no complaints
here. Thanks.

Lol thanks. Yeah i looked back this whole thing has taken
on a life of it's own. The problem with Houston is there
is so much to write about it's hard to keep it all in order.
Plus i am having trouble remembering some of the places.
So War and Peace here I come

Yeah being in Houston isolated us from a lot of the damage.
There was still more then i ever could have imagined but
nothing like the other states got. I remember meeting so
many people with horrible stories. As more and more people
moved into Houston from the devastated areas it became
painfully evident how lucky we really were.
