Death Penalty? Hmmm, Maybe Even Life.......

This GRANDMOTHER took sausage from a store during the hurricane.

These police officers should be ASHAMED of themselves!!!!!!!!!!! $50,000.00 bail for lewding sausage so, she and her husband could eat....... unfuckingbelievable.

KENNER, La. - Merlene Maten undoubtedly stands out in the prison where she has been held since Hurricane Katrina. The 73-year-old church deaconess, never before in trouble with the law, now sleeps among hardened criminals. Her bail is a stiff $50,000.

Her offense?

Police say the grandmother from New Orleans took $63.50 in goods from a looted deli the day after Katrina struck.

hopefully the justice system will see the error soon and let her go

luke69iner More likely, a member of the media will bail her out. I highly doubt the (so called) justice system there will let her go. *huge sigh*

OnTheRoad1979 Yes, isn't it funny how the rules apply to some but, not to all? UGH!

Thinks of Victor Hugo's "Les Miserables", it reminds me of it very vividly.

it would be a great cause for everyone to e-mail the kenner court and let them know how ridiculous this makes them look. i'm sure they are busy with disaster relief, but surely they need to take care of the victims as individuals as well.

I imagine there are many more bizarre examples like that. I guess chaos breeds some weird shit.

1hotwahine, I understand that chaos does bring about weirdness, but I have to agree with Ontheroad1979. It's not the chaos, it's the state of Louisiana. I am a native, & about two years ago my 83 year old Grandma was jailed. The reason? The KKK was holding a march in her town in the attempt to recruit & create a chapter. She threw rocks at them.... She threw rocks @ the KKK!!!! So, I am sure that more of the "unfreakingbelievable" has occured.

Being on the inside of the info going on down just can't believe some of the bullshit I've heard. Just BULLSHIT. Gathering food and hygiene items at a time like this shouldn't be a crime. However, the mayor spending a day or 2 before Katrina hit in Dallas purchasing a new home for his family should be punishable to the max. HE should've been distributing the damn food...and driving those empty buses out of there. Oh...don't get me going!!!
