boobs and brains

i was called in from my vacation for the Mayor's council meeting where i chair the committee on gaps in services for the homeless.

we are nearing completion of the REPORT, and the nit picky sniping about words has begun. let it be known that my agency is the only agency that has compromised or been impacted in any way up until now. 20 men, me and a recording secretary yesterday and in the midst of my suggesting that it would be more acceptable to list recommendations without naming particular agencies, one man literally lifted out of his seat and snarled, "typical woman, defensive and petty".

at first i just sat there - waiting to see if ANYONE would say - "hey asshole, lighten up". no one did.

so i leaned forward, made direct eye contact and said in a sweet and gentle voice, "just because i have boobs, doesn't mean i am one".

the silence was deafening but then the secretary snickered and a few of my "allies" started to laugh and in the end....... i do believe i made my point.

here's the question:

anyone ever treat you like you were less than?
because of your sex, your sexual preference, your culture, your age?

You cannot conceive the many without the one.

Unfortunately this kind of thing still happens way too often. Good for you for offering a come back, and shame on your friends for not supporting you before you did!!

And yes, all of the above are still reasons why people face descrimination. My particular demon is age descrimination, now that my hair and beard are turning white.

mine is nearly white as well

the difference for me is that i think more folks are taking me seriously as i age

Yes. For some reason if you are less than average, you might have brains ... but be beautiful and you shouldn't carry brains in a bucket. It's awful to be labeled! *sighz*

warm huggies and looking forward to our GNO (Girl's Night Out)

We all need a break!

I'm lucky to work with people I genuinely like, but it takes a few assholes to make all the crap we get into!

Unfortunately it seems as if women get the grunt of this all too often. Just because we are women does not make us inferior to the opposite sex. Just watch, someday soon there WILL be a female President!

Btw, i love the comment you made to him! You go girl!

"I am beautiful no matter what you say, words can't bring me down. So don't you bring me down today."

As a landscaper for the past 15 yrs , I have faced and faced down many a man that thought that boobs ...and blonde made me brainless.Ha !I have also been denied afew jobs for women as they couldnt wrap their brains around my knowing what I am talking about.Oh well.
And might I add that until recently I have been paid less than my male counter parts for the same job , and yet I have the "papers" and they dont .Go figure .Again oh well
great come back WE, good for you .

I am at the age where I have a little grey and people now respect me...

But there was a time I was very young and would say the same things I do now and have to work twice as hard to be taken seriously...

It happens to everyone...

Sounds like you handled yourself quite well... the trick is to stay calm and in control. When the other person looses it... you know you are just about to win.

Taking you more seriously is still age descrimination, it's just in your favor!! LOL

Perhaps what we have is more commonly age descrimination against being young as elysian points out.

Then again, youth often gets less consideration, becauase they lack experience. Is it descrimination if you take someone less seriously when in fact they lack expereience?

Just stepping on as many toes as I can

step away and a valid point

seems as i age out of being inexperienced, i age into being too old to hire - grins
