Monty Python: Bruce's Philosopher's Drinking Song

Driven to deep philosophical musings by saddletrampsk's post [post 338637] and the need to research I rediscovered Bruce's Philosopher's Drinking Song.

I once saw this performed live in London's West End and was totally cracked up by it:

Scene: The University of Wallaballoo - A Philosophy Department made up entirely of lecturers called Bruce, one of whom was also responsible for the sheep dip.

Just remembering it makes me laugh and I'd like to share that with you.

So here are the lyrics. Enjoy:

Immanuel Kant was a real pissant
Who was very rarely stable.

Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar
Who could think you under the table.

David Hume could out-consume
Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel,

And Wittgenstein was a beery swine
Who was just as schloshed as Schlegel.

There's nothing Nietzche couldn't teach ya
'Bout the raising of the wrist.
Socrates, himself, was permanently pissed.

John Stuart Mill, of his own free will,
On half a pint of shandy was particularly ill.

Plato, they say, could stick it away--
Half a crate of whisky every day.

Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle.
Hobbes was fond of his dram,

And René Descartes was a drunken fart.
'I drink, therefore I am.'

Yes, Socrates, himself, is particularly missed,
A lovely little thinker,
But a bugger when he's pissed.

And John Cleese going round the audience dressed as an usherette with a dead albatross on a stick! You'd have loved it. And you won't believe this, but I got the lyrics from the University of Adelaide's website. They're proud of it, goodatpoetry, they are!!!!!!
