Paint Job Finished

I’ve just finished painting - and here’s the result. Can someone tell me why:

• First coat ‒ no drips
• Second coat ‒ few drips
• Third coat ‒ lots of drips to clean up?

My guess is that it has a lot to do with my impatience to get finished.

It's a great color isn't it? And there is bright yellow elsewhere in the flat. Eventually there'll be a mural on one wall.

I'm not a painter so I can't say for certain, but not being very patient myself I'd bet that your patience, or lack of it, was the cause of the drips.

I love the color too. It looks like you have a beautiful flat.

I do. We're very priviledged here. Three bedrooms was the smallest available to me, and the rent is subsidised by our employer.

I remember you said were going to "throw coloured paint at the flat"...that looks really spendid...

When my paint drips it's because I have too much paint on the roller.

Absolutely, but why do I get more paint on the roller towards the end of a job? Maybe I'm in a rush to finish and I don't pause to check that the roller is "just right" before I start flinging it about.

I've got bright yellow in my bedroom, pumkin in the entrance hall, and the passage way is going to end up a fish tank. Nothing like painting other people's walls!

lol...nice work on the painting, and great color!!

By the third coat you need much less paint, you're basically putting a layer on for depth of color and very minor imperfections.

The paint "sticks" more or less because of surface tension from drying, by the layers underneath soaking up the moisture. By the third layer there is much less agressive "suction"
