Big Rock Candy Mountain

Sigh. Work.

As the song goes...
"...No axes, saws nor picks, I'm bound to stay Where you sleep all day, Where they hung the jerk That invented work..."

Now... if only hanging that guy solved the problem...

I feel laid flat after a very un-inspiring day at work.

I can't find any good beer either. All my Texas beer got spent by the second week after I had moved up here, and now, there's nothing. My favorite (non-Texas) brewery is up in Fort Collins... Its so close I can drive there every weekend for free beer... But their beer isn't sold in Grocery stores around here. What gives?

I'm beginning to miss certain things, like a certain brand of pickles that was spicy that I liked, and... sigh.. Wolf brand chili, and Nido, and that Indian store on Hillcroft and I-59, and my favorite Itallian place downtown, Josephines, that is right next to the S. Texas College of Law and the state appeals courts.

I remember the first time I went to Josephines. My sister is a commercial driver, and she happened to be in Houston for an hour driving some folks to the law college. She called me up, so I jumped in my car and met her there. We walked across the street for capuccino and bread with a great spiced olive oil dip. I took my wife there a lot while we were together. We would stop there sometimes for dinner before a play. Once, we ordered an entire bottle of wine, and finished it between us. That was the night before the superbowl, so when we decided to walk it off downtown, we were surprised to see SOOOO many people on main street.

I knew were verything was in Houston... and now all I have is home, and work, and nothing in between. I don't fit yet... and I don't know how to fit. People correct me on my accent for crying out loud... and even though I've lived in Texas for so long, I have a mostly mid-Western accent!

Anyway. Enough cry and piss and moan. What are some up thoughts?

I have new tires on my motorcycle!
I took it for a long ride on Saturday. That felt good. I got some warm biking gloves, so I could actually stay out for a while. It didn't take long before I was riding dusty roads around area ranches, and even past a Bison ranch... That was cool!
Better yet, though, while I was at the motorcycle shop looking for gloves, a very cute gal working there offered me a bit of flattery.
Flattery is SOOO welcome right now, so she left me all smiles for a while.

Mondays suck! I am sitting here at 7:15 am dreading getting out of bed. As much as I like my job and the people I work with, I hate going there and spending 8 fucking hours there.

When I moved to Houston from Los Angeles there were a TON of things I missed...#1 being La Victora green Taco Sauce...only Central Market sells it here...like it's some sort of gormet sauce or something!
