Malcom and Martin

Monday was the 40th Anniversary of the assassination of Malcom X by member of the NOI. I did not always agree with some of the views he took while with NOI, when he realized how extreme those views were did he realize that NOI was not right for its views. There are two things he did say that I do agree with. "By any means necessary." "We didnt land on Plymouth Rock, Plymouth Rock landed on us." As a Disabled indivdual and a Disabled Rights Advocate, dealing with a government that does not respect your views or needs is the most frustrating thing I have had to deal with. At the sametime, dealing with a society that still believes in Jim Crowism when it comes to Disabled, goes beyond description. Dr. King also pointed this out when he commented "An injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere." Black History Month is not just about the Afro-American experience, it is about the experience of those who have suffered because they are "on the fringes of society". Something to think about.
