Past Lives

I crewed with the Argonauts ... Jason was a pansy getting us into all sorts of trouble. And that Golden Fleece. Yeah we got fleeced alright. Turns out some flea-bitten rabble shepherds in the Caucasses use wool fleeces to pan for placer gold in the river. Ok so we burned them and got a few ingots out of the deal but few of us ever saw home again trying to cross a sea so bleak that men simply called her Black.

Subsequently, I found myself estranged to an isle of remarkable magic. In my earliest memory, I was at Queen Bodicia's side when she fell against the Romans. She was more magnificent than legend. We mourned for a year. A few hundred years later, I walked alongside a young Roman recruit and shared some thoughts on the subject of freewill. A wiry young lad, but with a quick mind. I understand he went on to become King in command of some well-rounded knights.

More recently in Indonesia, I doctored a fellow by the name of Wallace. During his malarial-induced delirium he kept spouting off bits n pieces about the ability of creatures to infinitely derive from the original. I scribbled down what I could and later he used the outline for a letter he sent off to a chap in England by the name of Darwin. The bugger gets all the credit to this day.
