dad

I just left Ms Cuummdrop's blog...(Please read!!) I am lucky to have my biolgical dad still alive. I love him, and before i hang up the phone, or drive off, my last words are "I Love You". Dad and mom were married 28 years! In retrospect, i know they weren't 'soul mates'. They did their best to provide for me and three sisters. Dad has always been "old-school". The work ethic, discipline, tough love, and making us work for what we have. I was in military when the divorce happened. He cheated, got caught. Dad has been married to that woman now 20 years. She has gotten him off cigarettes, alcohol, saved, and has been there through their highs and lows. I only want from him the one thing he isn't allowed to give me....some of his time. We enjoyed fishing. I was able to buy myself a bass-boat, and step-mom says he has no passion for fishing and i am just trying to relive past. So, my sisters and i get to coordinate, through step-mom, social calls. 3 or 4 short visits a year,,lunch or dinner at best. I know at 70, he is in latter years and it is nice to spend them with your spouse doing things together, but am i selfish to want to spend more time with you? Well, i will always pick up the phone and call, and daddy...."I Love You".(Thanks Wendy!)

There's never anything wrong with wanting to spend more time with a parent. I wish I had spent more time with my dad before he died.

Hi,

Your post touches many of us who had what you would call relatively good parents. My father was definitely a loving father but frozen inside to show outward affection to us but I loved him and I was still close to him because for odd reasons I knew he was a good man inside. My siblings missed out allowing fear to keep them at bay from Papa. He has been gone for nearly 10 years and I miss our daily calls and our talks and visits.
My personality is identical to him as my mother often tells me. I even look like him as well. I know that if he had another chance to raise children he would be more affectionate for he was this way with my children. They were his favourites as well as I was his baby girl.
I still dream about him. It is always in a sort of comforting scene as if he is encouraging me. I miss him so much.
TY for your lovely post and sharing it with us.

Hi Sweetie!

My parents marriage wasn't make in heaven either--but as they got
older they became very devoted to each other. My Dad passed away
in 1999 from heart problems--and a single day doesn't pass where my
Mom doesn't mention my Father! I really miss my Dad too! He was always my calming influence in life with lots of sweet southern saying. I got to see my parents usually at least once a week, sometimes two! They always came for dinner on Saturday night and to play cards or to watch movies! Like you, I also have a Mom that I
am responsible for.

I hope that your Mom's Emphysema isn't too bad. Has she had it long?

You blog is very nice and I enjoyed this post very much. While your stepmom has done a lot of good for your Dad, I would think that she could go some to understand his children's needs to see their Father--especially as no one gets any younger. Take it from me--you can pour your heart out to a grave, but it never answers you back.

Hugs,
Vixen!

PS--check your email!
