family reunions

What can I say? At least one will never go bored at family gatherings because if it is not the company that keeps things exciting than it must be the conversation.

You have your good 'ole fun-loving uncle who could easily play a Santa Claus at Christmas time in the middle of Macy's department store with his generous belly and gleeful disposition. Though, somehow, I doubt whether or not jolly old St. Nick would be wearing a t-shirt with Cheney shouting, "F*ck You!" on it. And I believe that the twinkle in his eye would mostly come from the little tarts wearing the skimpy elf costume with bells.

Then, there is matriarch of the family who everyone must be on their best behavior, otherwise, you will definitely hear about it at that moment and after the moment a couple of times too. So, wouldn't you expect this force of nature that causes everyone to run to the liquor cabinet at the end to be some towering german headmistress with could match the size of a linebacker? Of course not cause then it would not be so funny! Instead, we have a small, petite grandma who wears those Bohemian skirts that are the rave and has to roll over the belt part because the skirt is too long. Innocently sweet on the exterior, but don't be stupid enough to cross her.

And how about the southern belle of a mother who never swears and blushes at a negative or risque thought. However, everything better be in order with this anal lady, otherwise she will say words that could make AdultFriendFinder customers wide-eyed in shock.

And...oh the conversations. Well, first - one thing you should know: He/she who commands the conversation is the one who can shout the loudest and will not back down from the other ten voices that are trying to speak at the same time. Good luck.

No matter what though, in the end all one can really do is accept his/her family as they are and love them for their silly or overbearing traits. It are those characteristic that make family visits interesting.

Now I understand why they invented Jig-Saw puzzles.

Are you selling tickets to the next event? Sounds pretty entertaining from a spectators point of view.

Funny you should post this as I'm headed to a bit of a reunion myself next week. Won't be the whole family but a good portion of it. My grandparents have a beach house on Long Beach Island in NJ and I'm headed that way for 4 days next weekend. Used to go all the time when I was a kid but have not been in about 10 years. Should be a fun time....I enjoy just sitting back listening and laughing. I have the grandparents that constantly nag each other...each knows the other all to well to ever get an upperhand in any argument though. Then I have the funloving Aunt and Uncle (The same Uncle that let me sip my first beer when I was 8!) that are always asking me when I'm getting married or who I'm seeing and the other Aunts and Uncles that tell stories about my parents when they were little. Several cousins some of which I was best friends with at one time, others that I hardly know, and finally the ones I am meeting for the first time as they are still in diapers. Last of all I have the 6 year old cousin that is blind, autistic, and obsessive compulsive. I have to prepare myself for the onslaught of constant questioning he rains down on anyone in his vicinity...Think Macauley Culkin in 'Uncle Buck' when he is hammering John Candy with questions the first time they meet....then multiply that times 100!!!! I'm going to be worn out!!

Funny thing about family is your friends may not like em'. Your boyfriends may hate em'? But you understand em'??? LOL!!

And wouldn't trade them for any other family that exists, on tv.!!

Trust me, it could be worse.

I have relatives that formed a cult - No joke. Their story has been covered nationally (People Magazine, Dateline NBC, CourtTV). I get this all the time - "Dude, I think I just saw your cousin on television..."

I'd pray for simply "interesting". LOL
so you know someone famous? can always use that as a pick-up line...hey, wait a minute....

the funny part is that you are right! and if your counterpart can't accept them and enjoy the pleasures they bring to life, then kick him/her to the road

You think? Maybe I'll spend an extra day or two in Charlotte when I'm there for work next week. Know any cool people to hang out with?
