This just in....Aide to Katrina victims...

For those of you who have said that countries we have given financial aide to need to step up when our country is in need, The following excerpts from articles found on Yahoo News may be of some interest!

From Rueters...

KUWAIT (Reuters) - Wealthy OPEC nation Kuwait is donating $500 million worth of oil products and other humanitarian aid to its ally the United States to ease the impact of Hurricane Katrina, state news agency KUNA reported on Sunday.

And from AP...

....Spain, Belgium, Britain, Germany and Italy announced they had started or were about to send aid and experts to the U.S. to help with the logistical operation of getting help to hurricane survivors.

Britain's Ministry of Defense said Sunday the government would send 500,000 ration packs.

Germany and Italy sent flights of supplies, including food rations, bed supplies, inflatable dinghies and water purifiers.

The $500 million offer by Kuwait – which owes its 1991 liberation from seven months of occupation by Saddam Hussein's Iraqi army to a U.S.-led coalition – is the largest to date, surpassing the $100 million pledged by Qatar, another U.S. ally in the Mideast.

....Kuwait's offer includes $400 million in oil products and $100 million in humanitarian relief, Al Sabah's spokesman told The Associated Press.

...Another close U.S. ally, the United Arab Emirates, is sending tents, clothing, food and other aid.

So your requests have been answered it seems.

Kuwait, as you may remember, was one of the countries the U.S. helped to liberate from the tyranny of one Saddam Hussein and his army. They felt compelled to offer relief to the U.S. after the catastrophic events of the massive category 5 hurricane.

Come to think of it...many of these countries have received some sort of aide from the U.S. in the past...kinda restores one's faith in mankind, doesn't it?

Just thought I'd share this news with you!

It was nice of Germany and Italy to help but why did they send inflatable dinghies ... or does that not mean what it sounds like

It's only fair to help when people need it, wherever in the world they happen to be.

Just a shame the help is needed ...

Quiet, yes indeed! Do you think that countries (Other than the U.K) have offered help in the past?

I think 'help' comes in many different forms and when you think of the 'help' we've offered up in the past.... it would only be right to lend a hand in a time of need. And those in LA and MS definitely need a hand.
