Nerding out again

Hey sexies! It's time to talk about the future of computers!

Where to begin. Hmmm. Well, I’m going to set this up so that you can read each topic in two forms, the short short version (SSV) and the long tech version (LTV).

Ok, let's start off with the evolution of the computer.
SSV: It’s going to become a livingroom box managing everything.

Microsoft Windows Vista
SSV: Nothing too special so far, it’ll load games faster, look prettier, and have Microsoft’s version of the Google bar built-in to the start menu. Expect to buy a new computer if you want all the cool visual effects. Expect lots of pricey versions.

LTV:
As of now, there are 8 major versions of Vista slated for release:

Windows Starter 2007 - Vista without Aero, probably meant for developing nations.

Windows Vista Home Basic - Basic Windows Vista for your single PC fam, doesn't sound like much going on here. Analagous to XP Home.

Windows Vista Home Basic N - European version of the same, but without Media Player (because of antitrust rulings against MS in the EU).

Windows Vista Home Premium - This is the one we're all probably gonna own. It's got Media Center functionality, Cable Card support, the whole home-media shebang.

Windows Vista Business - Think of it as XP Pro, but Vista.

Windows Vista Business N - Think of it as XP Pro, but Vista, but Euro.

Windows Vista Enterprise - Business version of Vista with numerous enterprise features, like Virtual PC, volume encryption, etc.

Windows Vista Ultimate - Love that name. This one does all of the above (and more); what else do you need to know? It's ultimate Windows.

Also, with the release of windows vista there will be 3 letters that will change the world forever... DRM - digital rights management. Vista is going to be laced with DRM so that you can't play illegally downloaded or un-certified media. This will suck donkey balls.

Microsoft Office 2007
SSV: Surprisingly nice improvement. Be prepared for a new look and feel. It’s going to be awkward at first, but you’ll end up liking it. The new file types will confuse most people. Learn about them, they could screw things up in offices running different versions of Office.

New Hardware
SSV:
Highspeed wireless internet will make all cellphones into PDA phones. Expect cellphones to have more features and give you more headaches.
Hard drive (Mass storage) companies like Seagate and Western Digital will be all over the news. As more people buy TiVos, Media Center Computers, and other Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) they’ll want to keep more and more video. They’ll need hard drives to do that. Hard drives will keep getting smaller, faster and/or Larger. If investing, keep an Eye on Hitachi, IBM, and Toshiba for new Hard drive technology as well. Good stock market investment.
Graphics Cards will become much more important. Microsoft along with the two major graphics card companies (ATi and nVidia) will try to make choosing a graphics card easier by introducing a 5 rating chart but it won’t help. AMD and Intel’s CPU rating numbers just confused people more.
Apple is now running on Intel chips. Expect more Mac-only viruses to show up. 2006 and 2007 are going to be make-or-break years for Apple.
A Legit Movie downloading service (better and easier than Cinemanow or MovieLink) will appear. This is currently in works by the MPAA.
Expect to see more about a new internet Porn site suffix known as .xxx

LTV Coming soon!!
