morality, too is a question of time

"Morality, too is a question of time".

Read this last night (Memories of My Melancholy Whores, Gabriel Garcia Marquez)

Made me smile..and think. When I was younger..(so many years ago) I became a mom on my 19th birthday, had my 2nd child by my 21st, and so motherhood took over. I went from school to reliving my mothers life.

I was unhappy, there were so many things I wanted to do on all levels not just sexual, but never had the courage, because 'good girls don't'.

Then as I matured (tho that is questionable too.!!!) I started to get scared. I didn't want to be on my death bed wishing for things that I could have and should have done.... and made up my mind that the only mystery awaiting me on my death was going to be what if anything is on the other-side.

So my morality has become a little more relaxed..I have packed it away for a while, and yes the older I get the freer from morality I feel.... Wish I had the courage to be this confident and free when I was in my 20's and 30's, I would have been a lot happier and possibly a better person for it...Maybe.!!

I can relate to your thoughts and am often scared and always have been.

The biggest question is whose morality! What is the purpose behind the moral values handed down to us and are all members of society or our religious/social grouping bound by the same moral code... or are some animals more equal than others and therefor exempt from the moral code!!!

I admire your sense of freedom and aspire to reach that level but fear I never will. Personally, I think respect, consideration and concern for our fellow man or woman are more important than vague notions of sex and sexuality that have been devised for the ulterior motives of religious or political groupings throughout the ages. But I fear I am out of kilter with the rest of society lol.

Take care and continue following your free spirit

Always makes me wonder who makes up the rules....and why they are made up...and who they really suit...who decides what is moral and what is immoral....

I was trapped by a very strict religious upbringing (fairly fundmental Protestantism) from I was born, up to I caught myself on around 18 or so. Since then, my morality has been "flexible". If I like someone, and they like me, we go for it. Recently I've encountered some very interesting people (who know who they are, and so do you, Shar) and think that having a relaxed outlook is probably going to be a good thing.
