What's next? The rouge robber?

Story by nbc6.net

Police are baffled by a man who has knocked over dozens of banks in Florida while eluding capture for years.

Authorities said that in the last four and a half years, the man has robbed 37 Florida banks and tried to rob two more.

He has been photographed from every angle, but detectives still have no idea who they are chasing or how he got away with more than $500,000.

"He just kind of floats in and floats out," said Tony Paladini of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. "And ... here we are wondering who he is."

He's been dubbed the "Band-Aid Bandit" because of the bandage on his left cheek. Police theorize he might be hiding a mole or scar, or is just trying to divert attention.

They say the man is Hispanic with discolored skin on his hands and arms. He has a prominent gut and usually wears a wig and a fake moustache.

A police composite drawing suggests what he might look like without the disguises.

The robberies have occurred from Gainesville to Sarasota, but most occurred in the Greater Tampa area.

There have been no credible leads, even though police have put up billboards, issued thousands of fliers and flooded the Internet and news media.

Because of that, officials suspect the Bandit lives outside the region.

The Band-Aid Bandit carries a silver revolver, and often has an armed accomplice. Each robbery has been more threatening than before.

Frustrated police said they are hoping to catch the phantom robber before someone gets hurt.
