Sleepless night

I was awakened last night at about 2:00am by one of my kitties. She has asthma and about every 6 - 8 weeks she has an attack. I get no warning and it is horrible to watch her go through it. She climbed up on the bed...which caused her to start wheezing and hacking...and then just lay there looking at me with those eyes of hers...wanting me to make it better for her. When the attacks come I have to give her an injection...which really freaked me out at the beginning, but after 10 years of doing this every 6 weeks of so, I am an old pro at it. The only problem with the injection is it is not very fast acting, so she has difficulty breathing for a little while til the medicine kicks in. Needless to say, I was up for the rest of the night with her...just making sure she was comfortable and still breathing and to keep the other cats from bugging her til she felt better.

My cats are extrememly important to me...they are a part of my family and it hurts me no less to see one of them suffer then it would to watch a human family member suffer. I know there are a lot of people out there who would think this attitude crazy...after all..."it's just a cat", but to me they are family. I have found over the years that you can tell a lot about a person by how they treat/view animals in general, and pets in particular. I don't believe that I have ever met a person who spoils their pets that I didn't like. Coincidence? I think not.

The good news is neither she nor I are any worse for wear this morning. She is breathing fine and completely back to normal. I am a little tired, but very happy that I could help her.

I think it speaks well of you and your caring and compassion for all creatures great and small.

I am glad she is well.
