Ballad of a Man

I was warrior,
And I waged a war of silence.
My war was bereft of purpose,
Yet did not lack for violence.

My weapons were my words,
Sharp and hard as steel.
I used them as my armor, too,
To hide from what I feel.

And when the war is over,
what shall become of me?
Will I find peace and forgiveness,
When I embrace enternity.

I will seek another path
Until my course is run.
My words need not be weapons now,
Yet the war may still be won.

I will embrace life a poet,
a lover, and a man.
I am all these things and more,
These things are what I am.

Doubt not the hard times ahead,
For elusive is true bliss.
I will suffer the sorrow as always I have,
Yet live in the moments between a kiss.

And when what I am has turned to dust,
and my weapons fall from my hand.
Say not that I was a man as any other,
Sing this song of A warrior, a poet, a lover, a man.

(Still in progress)
