I've worked in radio of some form or another for 17 years (oh gosh) and I was a vocal performer before that. I value a good clear speaking voice, but one of my current employers wants me to speak not so "professionally" on the phone... rather taking a "um" approach and sounding a little whinnie so that people won't think that I'm a recording. This feels just as weird to me as anything... and worse thing is I get just as many people not wanting to help me out because I don't sound like a grown-up and a professional person... instead they decide that they can put me on hold forever or just like you would treat a girl scout when you don't want her cookies...

I know how you feel to an extent. My voice is very deep. Many times when I meet people they ask me if I do radio and if I dont I should. I have been told by a few at work to tone it down because they feel its too overpowering. Well too bad I say. Let it all out... lol.. Good luck.... btw whats your favorite Spfld station?
