county fairs

listening to the newspaper of all the things going on at the fair. I still do the county fair up near my folks, and there are certain things that we have to do every year. We have to go through the vender's tents just for info... papers that we later throw out (this is for mom) for dad we have to go see the "Poppin' Johnnies". And for me we have to go see the chickens, fowl, and rabbits. We also normally take in some of the sheep (we knew some of the families that were sheep farmers) and maybe the big horses.

What are you fair memories, or must sees? doesn't have to be county fair, maybe state fair (also a big thing in my current life, as that an association that I'm a member of is a vender - and I normally help out). What foods are a must have? What things do you avoid? Just think of summer fun when you reply!

Corny dogs were invented at the Texas State Fair, not authentic Fletcher's Corny dog unless it has the "y" at the end, gotta get at least one, and funnel cakes. Also have to check out the new cars in the Automobile buildings, and the welding machines in the vendor's row. I used to love the rides before I got "squished", but getting in and out of the rides isn't as easy as it used to be.

opus, might have to do battle about corny dogs... springfield IL is the home of the Kozy Dog, which has the pattent claim of the clipy thing that holds onto the stick inside of the corn dog, thus for some reason they think they can claim the origins as well... But the best corndogs (when I could eat them) at our fair weren't Kozy Dogs, but the Voss family's corndogs... where their cornbread was just a little sweet, or something just a little different. But alas with a corn allergy I won't be eating corn dogs again unless I know that I'll be near a real bathroom (not a portapotty) within 15-30 minutes, and want to endure stomach cramps that make me double over... not worth it so I go for the huge cream puffs

Rides have made me dizzy for years so I really don't do them either. But rather go for the animals, and the people - in the heat of the summer sometimes the people act like animals... hee hee

well I hope all of you have a good fathers day, and a great weekend!
