Smile and say hello

I grew up in a small town. And when older, I lived in a very small town for a lot of years. (Yes, I lived in big cities, also.) Walking down the street, people smiled and said hello or a quick hi. Eye contact was always made. Not out of fear, but out of friendliness.
I still do it. It surprised me the other day when a stranger that I had passed in a store and said hello (with a smile) caught up to me to say thank you. They had had a bad day, and until I smiled my hello to them, no one had even spoken to them all day.
Now that is sad.
We all have wants, needs, and dreams. We have our troubles, also. But we are all here together whether we want to be or not. So why not be at least cordial or have the manners to speak or at least smile at someone.
After thanking them for them stopping me to tell me that, I knew I had found a new friend. Friendship can be just that easy... if you let it.

unlistedone I was born in a small town, and have the same thoughts and memories of the general attitude of friendliness and helpfullness....

Where i live now, for the past 35 years, for the majority - the attitude is very much the same, friendly, kind, helpfull...... It is probably one of the reasons people like it so much here.........
Something else....... I have noticed......

Smiling can be contagious

LOL (nod, wink, and a smile....... yup)

Mzhuny, lovelylady, sara, polly... thank you for your thoughts. I consider each of you as a friend.
Yes, polly I enjoyed my time away... I needed to recharge myself somewhat.

Taking the time to reconnect with one's self is a good thing.......
taking a "time out" to - recharge, reflect, cerebrate, cogitate, consider, contemplate, deliberate, meditate, muse, noodle, ponder, reason, ruminate, speculate, stew, study, think, weigh, wonder........

I was thinking about this and I know you are right about friends........ Old lovers are usually just that and maybe you will have memories of a good time or two, but frineds, you will have forever....... even if you never meet, you will have that memory, that feeling, that knowing....... That out there, you have friends... that think of you as a good friend........ a good person....
What a good, warm feeling that is!

And I'm sure, LL, you are considered a "good friend" by all who know you. Your warmth and honesty really comes through with your every word. I'm honored to be considered "your friend." lOl...living Our life.
