Great Song Lyrics...

I was listening to a new/old cd the other day, and a lyric from an old song just jumped out at me. What a great lyric... the guy knew what he was writing. (You can almost hear the singer laughing slightly, and with a special pride when he sang these words.

From "I Can Live With That" Dobbie Gray

Woke up this mornin in an Angel's arms,
I never knew that a dream
would come true last night...

My Van Heusen never looked so good,
just watching you cross the floor
is a wonderful sight.

The Mona Lisa has nothing on you,
there's something beautiful
in everything that you do.

You got me on cloud nine
and I believe it's for real this time...
And I can live with that.
Now and forever
I can live with that
here in paradise!
I can live with that
as long as we're together
I can live with that.

The song continues, but the first couple of verses just blew me away. If every guy could just say these words to his lady, and mean them... well things would be pretty damn great, don't ya think?

To me, there might not be anything more sexier than to see a lady walking around in just my shirt. You want to get to your man? Try it!!!
I could live with that! hug, me

I feel sexier wearing a man's shirt than I do in sexy lingerie. Great lyrics!

It is a shame that lyric writing seems to be coming a lost art these days. So many songs I hear on the radio anymore all sound the same both musically and lyrically.

Angel, I read your post and those are beautiful lyrics. Thank you for sharing them. And what an Angel you would be to wake up with!!! 143, me

Caress, just the thought of you in a man's shirt is enough to evoke all sorts of images... all of them very arousing!! lol! It's nice to see you stop by. Please don't be a stranger. I do so enjoy your blog... and you! hug my friend, me

Keystone... I think you may be right. Oh there's still some good lyrics out there. But you are right in them sometimes being lost inside a repetitive tone. I've tried listening to a lot of today's hits... and they seem to blend in with each other after a while.

(I can say this, "perhaps it's my age.")

The music from a time well before you was what I grew up on. I liked rocknroll. I enjoyed the fifties, sixties, and the seventies, and even the eighties.

But then there was "Soul" music.

The music that blended New Orlean's blues and Memphis blues, along with southern gospel, and the sounds of motor city... Detroit.

King Curtis, Ray Charles, James Brown, Eddie Floyd, Sam and Dave, The Tams, The Drifters, James and Bobby Purify, Arthur Connelly, Wilson Pickett, Brook Benton, and the incredible voice of Jerry Butler...just to name a few.

The beat was different. The style was different. And the lyrics... man the lyrics.

It was said, that if you got a girl to really listen to the lyrics of a Jerry Butler song (like "For Your Precious Love") she would forever be yours... Or Jerry's!! lol!!

Thanks for stopping by, and allowing me to have this flashback, my friend! unlisted
