They've already done it

I'm driving down the road this morning, listening to yippy and skippy, or _____________ & ______________ (Insert name of least favorite 20 something wanna be shock jocks duo from your local radio market) and they're talking about some new video game that's just been released. (I have no idea which one, since I don't play them at all.)

The one guy, I think it was yippy, is so excited. I mean, you'd have thought that he just won the lottery, he's yelling and screaming, sounds like he's bouncing off the walls. Over a video game.

Then, I get these thoughts in my head. No, not about sheep in fish-net stockings. I mean thoughts about how video games are going to affect our society. How they are going to have an impact on the way our world develops as a race. The human race.

I thought to myself, "What if the people who wrote, say, Gilligan's Island grew up playing things like Grand Theft Auto." Can you imagine that?

Mr. Howell would have had a .45 in his waist line all the time, and Mrs. Howell would have been 23 instead of 61. And she would have made Ginger look like a Karaoke video star rather than a movie star. MaryAnne would have had a severe drug problem. My guess would have been heroine. She'd have had needle tracks all up and down her arms, she be strung out for most of every episode, she turn tricks for drugs... Of course the captain and Gilligan would have been her two biggest customers. And they'd show up and do her at the same time.

The professor would have his own vices. He'd be involved in some kind of scam dealing chemical warfare secrets that would have the Russian mafia looking for his ass harder than our own coast guard. He'd have a constant look of paranoia on his face, he'd be all jittery all the time, like he had been doing a few good times with MaryAnne. Ginger would be an actress still, but instead of being single, she'd have 5 ex-husbands. She'd be pissed off the whole time thinking about how much alimony she's missing out on.

Then to top it all off, there would be about 6-8 monsters running around on the island too. They'd have big teeth, could turn invisible if they desired, could run 45 mph, have the strentgh of a gorilla who got into Barry Bonds medicine cabinet, and to top it off.... they're bullet proof.

Then I realized, they already did it. It's called

nah, Mr Howell would have run an opium den. Mrs. Howell would have been a very pouty 14 (but she would look just like she was 23). The skipper would be pimping Maryanne and Ginger (the transvestite). The professor would be building synthetic drugs and selling them to his number 1 dj friend Gilligan to push in his club.

It would always the be the natives that are carrying M60s and RPGs and they would be storming the island in cigarette boats.

And I am probably the only person who does not watch Lost.

I don't watch it either. I think I watched one episode the first season.

When I posted this, I was expecting to catch a bunch of flack from the LOST loyale, but I'm glad to see that I'm not alone in the "I don't watch it" department. I think I saw ten minutes of it once, and then decided I should go watch my weeds grow.

I don't watch it either ... then again ... I don't watch TV period. We watch DVD movies .. no antenna .. no cable .. no satellite. No video games either.

But, hey, someone will probably make your scenario into the latest movie remake of a classic TV show.

I'm surprised no one commented about the pic of the sheep in the fish-nets.

*raising hand slowly....* I'm a Lost fan.

But, as I was reading your post ... I was thinking that it sounded like the cast for Lost! When I got to the last line I cracked up laughing ... disturbed coathangers sleep.
