Tennismaiden turning into Oprah

Last time I looked my skin pigment hadn't suddenly begun getting darker, but hey it's summer and there is a gentle amber tone starting to deepen(along with my brain). One doesn't need to have her skin color change to know that our dear Oprah Winfrey does have some quality ideas to contribute towards women's spirituality and enlightenment.

I am suggesting beginning a bloggers book club of sorts. Kind of a female gender based support group of stimulating and exercising the brain with Authors from outside of blogland.

How fun, to meet and join each other, pass along ideas, create new ones and discuss everything from matters of the heart to breaking the glass ceiling. What better way to pass along our thoughts to so many others in this forum where we stand to benefit from such wisdom and strength.

What tickles me most about this is getting to view others interpretation on reading and enjoying the same reads. All our perceptions are unique, how about coloring the canvas with your special hues, getting another person to step into your world or see life through your eyes?

I know we do this already in general from blogging but this could present another way to stretch ourselves en masse.

Any thoughts? Please give me feedback if you like this idea!

I think it's a great idea-get more feedback-then have a "real' meet in the blogger's chatroom for instant reaction/ideas

Don't worry, be Happy

Sounds like you could have fun (if you can get people torn away from the computer long enough to read the books)

Hugs, C

So glad you like the idea! Check back and hopefully we can all agree on a title and choice. Maybe even establish a chat room to meet or group started here to post books and suggestions.

And as you invoke Oprah, why not consider two recent books by an author who she selected some time ago (I never thought I'd suggest such a thing, not being an Oprah-type of guy myself):

"Where or When" and "A Wedding in December" by Anita Shreve (the book Oprah elected for her club was "A Pilot's Wife" - which if you haven't read it is another great summer read)

Or, if you don't mind that it's not hot from the press:

"The Human Stain" by Philip Roth.

Which of course implicitly establishes that I think your idea is a great one.

But then, who could (or would) be surprised?

rm_tennismaiden replies on 7/22/2006 2:22 pm:
My sir Perchance, how delighted I am to have you visit my blog. I had a feeling you and I would be somehow connected, yes I have read Anita Shreve as recommend by a very good attorney friend of mine. I began with the "pilots wife" and enjoyed it immensely.

I will consider "The Human Stain" very closely, however I kind of wanted to do a womens awareness/self help(psychology) book as our first choice. I've got all these like minded fore lorn horny fellow bloggers just dying to meet "him" and in the meantime we could be gathering our wits and preparing for that fated day.

Oh you sweet talker I'm such a softy for tall, dark and handsome men...not to mention sassy and smart!

Many thanks for the compliments!

Yes In know you would be "all for" anything that involved group interaction. Maybe we should choose something on Tantra for all those who haven't stopped by your blog yet!

I think this is a wonderful idea.. truly..as a matter a fact i was thinking the same direction for my blog but really don't have the time.. so many questions asked and so many answers out here and you would be the perfect host with all your wisdom and provoking topics..Can we call you "TENRAH" ..lol

This would be perfect !Can I sit by your side and be your co-host? lol

under the stars
We choose to write
you choose what you comprehend.
read twice and be nice
every key stroke... has a heart beat

rm_tennismaiden replies on 7/22/2006 2:29 pm:
"Tenrah"? Whoa...I kind of like that...do you think the nickname would stick?

Of course you can stick by me...hey are you anywhere near Fort Meyers?...I'll have to check Mapquest. Maybe sometime over the summer I might make a visit your way. Gosh I don't hope Libgem is gonna be here in Jersey the same time I'm in Florida. OH we must coordinate! Then I could sit under the stars with you and breathe the magnolia....what fun!

Sounds good, share genuine life knowledge and your thoughts on content with everyone, I think it will be great.

Yeah as long as we stay away from titillation and smut...can you imagine all us bloggy ladies reading that? The website might crash from the sheer over active imaginations and under utilized libidos! LOL

Hey Tennismaiden Well, after you commented on my Dr Phil post, I just popped over to see what you might be blogging about & geez... I jumped right into the Oprah show - featuring a new club to exclude men no less. Wow! Talk about bad timing! I'll just say "Hey" & come back another time.

rm_tennismaiden replies on 7/22/2006 2:36 pm:
Oh noooo don't go away. I'm sure we can alternate between single gender books and integrated ones for all to chime in and read. Besides I really don't think you guys want to read topics on menopause, shopping, and cleaning toilets and wiping snotty noses...am I right? Unless you would like to get in touch with your feminine side! LOL

rm_tennismaiden replies on 7/22/2006 2:46 pm:
Are there any books you've been dying to read but haven't yet? Post them I'll set up a special blog for book suggestions and we'll go through and get everyones reaction. Meantime spread the word and let your other bloggy friends know we're gonna do this.

I'm currently reading In the Company of the Courtesan by Sarah Dunant. Wonderful.

My reading is so eclectic that I'm not sure it would fit with an Oprah type thing. All those spiritual and self-help things, yuck!

rm_tennismaiden replies on 7/22/2006 5:52 pm:
OK Ok OK...so your one of the few here that has her head on straight, no self help books for you! BUT we will alternate and also include the guys, whadya think, it could work!

Don't think we'll do Oprah stuff, besides trying to purchase one of her chosen is nearly impossible at B & N so heck with that.

Thanks again for including me into your network Kells, I have to say....OH HEAVENS TO BETSEY! Can we trade bodies and ages just for one day...Pleeeeze? You are as stunning in photograph as your mind is in blogs. No wonder you're the Queen !(at least in my book)

LOL!!! I wish I still looked like that. False advertising, I'm afraid. Those were taken in 2001 ... well, except for the one in the overalls.

rm_tennismaiden replies on 7/22/2006 7:15 pm:
Oh Com'on Kelli whats 5 years since then...I can bet ya I've got way more cellulite then you and a few child baring scars to boot! I'm sure that even if your physique has changed even a small amount it is still glorious.

Believe it or not even as I age, though I'm not perfect I'm comfortable in my skin. And so should you be. A women without the signs of real life is not a real woman!

Oh I like that...good quote if I do say so myself! (tennismaiden strutting her stuff)!

Hey Tennismaiden Alright I'll stick around. I didn't think I had the option to stay since you said it was a "female gender based support group."

I was thinking about...
for my son - Under The Baseball Moon by John H. Ritter
and for myself - Acts of Faith by Philip Caputo

Has anyone read either of these?

rm_tennismaiden replies on 7/23/2006 6:31 pm:
WE will submit those requests and see what everyone else thinks, thanks I4U! Keep checking back to see what develops.

I began reading Margot Anon's (SP) book on tantra and heard of several people that took her course in Rhinebeck NY. WE will try and get a mention in for that, not to worry!

Sounds like a great idea. If you want to have a real live book discussion you might want to post a book and have an on line meeting. You could use a service such as free conference call for your meetings. Its great for this sort of thing.

Oh, and many "womens" books are good for men to read also.

rm_tennismaiden replies on 7/23/2006 6:36 pm:
Great suggestion with the conferencing, I had thought of that too but maybe we can use the bloggers chat room?

I'm glad you are so flexible on topics whether they be womens or mens, oh to have more open minded men like you would save allot of marriages. Thanks for stopping by and chiming in!
