it's over

My trip home from Worldcon took ten minutes. I started the car at 11:11 PM and pulled into my carport and turned off the car while it was still 11:21 PM. This is very funny to me, because I can't even remember the number of times the trip back was from the east coast, and there were two of us carrying two large suitcases each, plus carryons. Costumers travel heavy.

Interesting weekend. I accidently found my way into the George R.R. Martin fan club party. Got invited to be in the group photo. I went straight to worldcon from work and was still in my guard shirt. Contributes to the invisibility, as it turns out. One girl asked me to be in it, thinking that I was either con or hotel security. I shocked her when I was able to tell her that I've been a Martin fan for longer than she's been alive.

My culture shock of the weekend. Everyone else my age looks a lot older than I do.

Would you please stop naming your posts morbid names like "its over"??

I thought you were quitting blogging..............jeez

sorry. didn't even think about that.

Is it ok to be pleased that you'd care?

Besides, the way I do stuff it would never be announced. One day I'd just stop.......

(maybe not. I hate loose threads. Have I left any laying about?)

I looked at the lineup from this year's Worldcon. I thought Ray Bradbury was dead.

Hey, do they let the fans into the Hugo Awards ceremony?

rm_smosmof2 replies on 8/28/2006 1:05 am:
absolutely. this is the award that the fans vote on, as opposed to the Nebula, which is voted on by members of the SFWriters of America.
It used to be the big "dress up in your finest" event. Still is, to some. There's a large chunk of the seating that's assigned to the nominees. We then pretty well fill the floor with attendees for the awards show itself.

The only award I remember was for dramatic presentation. it went to Serenity. One of the finest reviewed films ever to not draw an audience. All the Joss Whedon fans showed up for it the first weekend, but no one else seems to have gone....

and, as long as you're here, have we ever met? you look remarkably like a friend of mine. but she's a little older than I, and you're much younger.....

if I knew how to get hold of her, I'd tell her she's been cloned....

World Con! OMG I am suffering very deep con evny here. I haven't been to a con since the big Farscape bash in Burbank in 2001.

It sounds like you had an amazing time.

I'm not sure I'd use the word "amazing", but it was actually quite pleasant.

More info in my next post, when I get it written. The first paragraph or two are already composed in my head.

do you see the numbers 11 11 a lot? i was just wondering, cuz ive seen them all the damn time since i was 21, and i got the movie about 11 11 hells gates and researched it on the net....look into it.....rather interesting.....when you said you got in your car at 1111, it struck me...

I was also amused that I started the car exactly at "picket fence time". I had a friend, many years ago, who was obsessed with the number 22. He was born on November 22, and the day of his 22nd birthday was the Kennedy assassination. From that point on in his life, the number 22 kept popping up.

He was murdered in 1972, on March 22. Appearantly he'd picked up a woman, had a "badger game" played on him, and was shot. He died trying to drive home. No one was ever arrested for it.....
