The Stars

I love to go out at night at watch the moon and stars as they wander across the sky. Tonight's clouds are the familiar high strata rapidly moving clouds from hurricane Rita, (they look so much like those from Katrina) Bathed in the nearly full moonlight.
I love to look at the North Star, and watch it throughout the night, always fixed.
Sometimes a satellite whizzes by overhead, neat!
I have been watching the planets too. I keep wondering if that is Mars ascending about 40 minutes before Orion, but almost perfectly in line with his belt. If it is Mars how come it doesn't seem to be moving in relation to Orion?
Once when I was on Kawai camping with my folks, we laid out and watched the stars, free from the light pollution that plagues most of the continental U.S.
It's too bad progress had to take away our stars.
But then, Manhattan was sold for 20 bux worth of beads. Now we have a New York, New York.
Can't wait till I get my boat though.
I think I would rather have the stars.

The same progress that has allowed us to see the stars so much closer to us eventually took them away. Now you have a choice, progress or stars.

I spent 2 months in Barcelona last year. On Augut 12 I was at the beach watching the Perseids shoot through the sky and made a wish on the biggest one. Still waiting for it to happen.

There are places here where you can still see the stars without being too far from "civilization". The view from a boat sounds lovely...

Dang, I sure miss seeing the stars. When I was a kid, we lived in the sticks and I can remember many a summers evening lying on our backs gazing at them. Now I can barely see em even if I am far from the city.
