What is alternative?

There have been severa posts recently about concerns that someone may find out about "alternative activities." I have always wondered who came up with that phrase? What exactly does it mean? Since our perceptions of pleasure are often psychologically connected to the concept of love, it is no wonder that there are many people who enjoy spanking and other light BDSM activities, but how would that make them "alternative?"

What is the percentage of the population below which an activity can be considered "Alternative?" Is that based on a bell curve or a straight linear correlation?

When the definition is used however:
Alternative al暗er搖a暗ive n
1. something different from, and able to serve as a substitute for, something else
2. the possibility of choosing between two different things or courses of action
3. either one of two, or one of several, things or courses of action to choose between

That would mean that alternative includes missionary, oral, "back to back, belly to belly" (for those Kingston Trio fans) and every activity that has to do with sensual and sexual pleasuers are alternative. Implicit in that is the possibility that anything which could serve as an alternative to sex (anything which stimulates the pleasure centers in the brain) would fall under this categorization. Shopping for instance, or choclate.

The English language is certainly a curious one don't you think.
