Perfect times are elusive.

I just got off the phone with a friend in San Diego. We had recently spent a week together canoeing a river. We got to talking about how incredible the trip was, no phones, no TV, no radio, no computer, etc. It also brought home how much we tend to ignore the beauty and specialness right where we are today.

If I get caught up in those perfect times, I start believeing life should be lived on those higher spiritual/emotional peaks, instead of experiencing the normal times with intention and caring and awareness. The peaks do not make life what it is. It is those in between times that offer our hearts peace. And the knowledge, that by paying attention in my life, I can always be in a special time with whomever I with and whatever I am doing.

I cannot spend 24/7 blowing through the mountains on the Harley, much as I would love to. But I can carry that attiutde with me.

i was busy typing a reply to this last night, but then interrupted to say something similar to my husband ... which led to a long argument, so you never got your comment!!! he wants all our freetime together filled with "special" activities, i trail around after him getting increasingly exhausted wishing we could just sit still and take pleasure in the moment! if i get him to sit still, he is bored...

A mentor used to say those who get bored easily are truly bores. Boredom exists in the absence of enjoying your life.

nope, i can't say someone who spends their whole life in service to the poor, homeless, beaten, battered, etc etc is boring. as others have said of him, if there were just 10 more activists like him in cape town, we would have real change on our hands... i cannot call someone with a passion for changing the world "boring"!

Amen to that. I do remember an earlier blog. Sometimes they run together. He has what the natives have called "a heart too large."
