At the dance

I had seen her come in
As she scanned the room
our eyes met briefly

I watched her dance
with a partner yet aloof
As we passed on the floor
the dance of the eyes continued

Then I was standing near
when a slow song was played
I turned and offered her my hand

She accepted
with no hint of hesitation
Not as a stranger
with whom I had only shared a smile

Her body slid close to mine,
her head resting on my shoulder
As the music filled the air
I felt a slight tremble
A loneliness inside

No words were ever exchanged
For there was no need

The music ended
She retreated to her world
and I to mine

Many years have passed
and I can still close my eyes
And embrace those
moments we shared
I never even knew her name.

Sigh...and if you catch a scent of something that reminds you of you remember?

memories are strong and precious .... writing it down like you did will keep it fresh in your memory. How sweet and wonderful that for a moment this person fulfilled your heart .... for a long period of time.

EM4M I just watched "Shall We Dance" with Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, and Jennifer Lopez. (5th time). Thank you for your comment and know I love partner dance., especially blues I did teach for a while - swing, blues, waltz, foxtrot - but not formal style) and your words describe it so well "Sensual Living, Snesual Awarenss" especially the awareness. Without it the dance between two cannot flow.
