Well watched 2 movies last night. One independent film and one documentary. These are the results.

Danny Deckchair-Shot by Jeff Balsmeyer and starring Rhys Ifans as Danny. It basically is the story of truck driver whose vacation is put on hold by his scheming girl. So Danny using the brains that are given to men decides to attach balloons to his lawn chair to see if he can float away from his life. Well it works and soon Danny is in another town with a new life. Now this film does follow some formulaic love story plot. With him floating to a new town and meeting the new girl while questioning his love for the other. However this movie does have some decent acting and wraps itself up pretty nicely by the end. Not bad for a film from Australia. I give it a B.

Tarnation-This movie is a documentary based on filmmaker Jonathan Caouette's life and living with a schizophrenic mother. It is shot on what looks like 4 to 5 different cameras and he actually filmed 19 years of his life for this film. It is without a doubt one of the weirdest yet best documentaries I have seen in a long time. It is like the movie Pink Floyd the Wall, but in real life. Cartoons, soundtrack music, photos, flashbacks, personal family films, basically everything is in this movie. This movie costs less than 500.00 to make, yet it has more impact than a multi-million dollar feature. Artistically brilliant and yet haunting and disturbing at the same time I give it an A. I wondered after watching this movie what I would have recorded in my life if I would have done that for 19 years. Scary thought.

Ok I'm off to attach balloons to my lawn chair and try to disprove the theory that Danny Deckchair got to work in the movie. Maybe I'll float to your town.
