Who do you care for?

<<<< These are my furred children.

Some days they are the only reason I get out of bed! I am here to serve them. When they want to go out. When they are hungry. When they just look at me, and get that crazed wide pupil stare - we gonna PLAY!!

Abby, or Abigail, she is the fawn English Mastiff. Riley, he is the black Great Dane with a dash of Mastiff in him.

I really feel that without them, I would not be as happy. They keep me on my toes. And both are just huge wrecking crews!! They have no idea how big they are. A single tail sweep, and the table is cleaned off, on to the floor!! As they turn around, whole bookcases shake, and piles of paperwork spill.

They both are rescues. Abby, from a family that had her for five years. Then they just wanted to get rid of her. Riley, was picked up as a stray in Tampa.

I believe that humans need to interact with nature to fully understand the world we live in. Theirs is a type of love that is so unconditional and freely given. People that have never had a pet don't understand. It is an experience that everyone should have, at least once. We unconditionally tell them that we will be there for their lifetime. A pact is formed, for life.

Any furred or non-human children running around your place? Let us know.

Just Ramblings from Mav

C'mon Mav, poor animals. Living with you can hrdly be described as being rescued! Make sure Abby gets plenty of supplements for her hips, big prob with mastiffs.

Oh, here we go. Me? What about keeping 2 cats in a motor home!

She does. Special Large Breed Sr. with glucosinmine(sp) and condrotin(sp). She has hip problems, but are well managed right now with the food and occasional additional supplements.

Thanks for asking!!

Corns are usually pretty good? You must just not handle it enough.

You say 'lizard', to a reptile guy! Come on .. what type?

Hello,
I have been a cat lover for decades. I was deathly afraid of dogs for I had seen too many kids attacked and torn by them. Finally I decided to get over that fear to get a puppy. I was mortified for 2 weeks. This little beast bit, chewed, barked, chased me all over. It was hilarious.
Finally talked to my vet and friends who offered me great and sound advice. She is now 6 months old. I call her my joy, joy, joy. She follows me and obeys commands and loves me to pieces without chewing me. My fear disappeared. I love dogs now. Should have done this decades ago for the joy they give me.
TY

Dogs are very different from cats. Completely!!

Yes Maverick, picture this...my adorable puppy weighing at only 3 and a half pounds and chasing me nipping my ankle...following me like a stalker...I was deathly afraid but thought I will face my fear head on...The more I told her to stop with my finger out...she only chumped more at it...
I had to call the Vet to rescue me as I was afraid to walk on the floor...I climbed and hopped on furnitures the first two weeks...It was a camcorder moment I tell you LOL...
She is a beautiful blonde, rusty colored Pom and Shitzu....and I did call her little SHIT...when she bit me LOL.

I will send you her picture.

Enjoy your weekend...You twisted son of a gun laughing at my situation LOL
And yes cats are different than dogs...YA think? Totally and completely LOL

My dad had a mastiff when he was a boy. Dad grew up on a farm & Butch followed dad around like a shadow. Butch went on the milk round with dad in the mornings before school & even walked to school with dad. Then Butch would kinda hang out until dad was done in school & came home.

Butch was a faithful animal & was obedient too.

Mum didnt have any pets as she grew up in a poor family, unlike dad whos family were considered comfortably off for having a farm.

My furry loved one is (as many already know) Lucky our bunny. Shes actually 1 year old today. Having Lucky is like having a permanent puppy around.

Nah!! He bit me at feedings!! My fault!!

Sudanese plated... had iguana's, basilisk's, and a horned mountain lizard!!

I thought you raised alligator's?????

maverick1255 replies on 7/1/2006 3:33 am:
Oh, yea, the old 'bite at what comes in cage' theory!!!

Sudanese plated, cool. Your selection is a little rare, also harder to care for. More special needs.

OMG!! I would love to get a gator! Maybe a lucistic one or albino, just for display!! Wait until my baby Asian Water monitors get big!! HeHe!!

I absolutely LOVEanimals, perhaps even more than people...Though I have had my kittycat, Shadow for going on 11 years now, I grew up with doggies and kitties. I should have known you`d be a big softie and have animals close to you Mav

I have just gotten a new puppy she is 1/2 English Mastiff and 1/2 Rottwieler...I adore her even though I am her personal chew toy!

maverick1255 replies on 7/1/2006 8:20 pm:
What an interesting mix. Does she look more fawn (Mastiff) or more dark with brown on face (rottie)?

Yea! She is a puppy!!

It's too bad you don't live closer to Amber ... your ponies could play with her ponies.

maverick1255 replies on 7/1/2006 8:21 pm:
Hmmm, I will have to check on that. Thanks!

No, animals around your apartment? Fish? Small cricket in a cage for luck?

Two beauties they are, maverick. I'm a complete sucker when it comes to dogs, turn to mush every time I encounter a four legged furry creature.

Used to be that I was afraid of dogs, then some years back my brother got an English Springer Spaniel and I learned to understand dog behaviour. Later I had a Welsh Springer Spaniel for three years (6 to 9). Sadly he was afflicted with a bad case of allergies that made him itch and scratch and it got progressively worse over the years.

Luckily he was blithely unaware of how sick he was and had a wonderful zest for life up till the end. I had to put him down in may last year. Poor baby, I miss him.
