Does a double standard exist?

Men are dogs, when they cheat, women justifiably are pissed hurt and sickened and fed up but then again men are dogs so it's expected!

When women cheat the response is "the man had it coming", "he wasn't pleasing her",or "it was in retaliation" the men are often shocked and ridiculed by mates, whereas the female recipeint of infedility is consolled by her friends and nutured by the aphorism "MEN ARE DOGS"

Is this a double standard or just reality?

I think it appears to be a double standard, because we apply it broadly across all of society. I think the bottom line is that honesty between partners, which is really what this is all about, cuts pretty evenly. There's no real justification to cheating... If you're going to sleep around, you should say so. You've ostensibly made a commitment to monogamy, and if you want to change that, you need to come clean.

The double standard you're talking about is the double standard of the excuses... and excuses are just that.

Unfortunately, some people can't separate excuses from the act, and that isn't fair.
