My Armchair Sociology

A few days ago I reactivated my AdultFriendFinder profile, hoping to "hook-up" (of course). Have spent a lot of time and energy searching, wondering how to craft my profile, etc., and also attempting to initiate a few contacts.

Results so far are, frankly, disappointing!

Here's what I know. First, what I know about myself is that I'm intelligent, even intellectual, perhaps even to the point of detriment. (Of course "we are what we are", right? Don't fight it, rather, capitalize on it!)
In fact I recently went through some online personality tests (I was already looking into these in connection with my job anyway). I am consistently scored as an "ENTP", meaning I'm a bright, socially active but disorganized visionary. Elsewhere or later, I might blog out more detail about this "ENTP" business ...

Anyway, here's what I also know --- what I know about AdultFriendFinder: It's mostly men! I'm sure women have the distinct advantage here.

As an experiment, I created a second account and profile, this one a ficticous woman who is just about what I'd like to find and who lives near me. The profile is short and somewhat bland (I really didn't spend much time on it!). Nonetheless, in less than twelve hours "she" got 17 winks and six emails!

Meanwhile I, the real me, over here on the male side of things, has gotten one wink, no emails, not even responses to the seven or so initiations which I made.

Ah well. Not to take it badly, right? I know I have plenty to offer. I'm fairly good looking, capable of great sex (I know this as a fact, not trying to exhibit an inflated ego), and, in the right situation can be one hell of a good conversationalist! I'm a "nice guy". BUT, well, the cards are stacked against me, it seems.

(OK I admit it --- this blogging business is an partly attempt to enhance my AdultFriendFinder profile!)

From various forms of "chat", etc. over a few years, I've seen that the world is full of eager men! Very competitive. This is no less true of AdultFriendFinder -- in fact, probably it's more true here. So, "welcome to the human race", right?
=G.

So how did you respond to the men who took the time to contact the fictitious woman whose profile you created?

Lottie-Dah, fair question! I'm a little embarassed that I have *not* responded. "Women" are so busy in this medium, you know! I just haven't gotten around to it.

But your question makes me think. I could either ignore them (which seems to be well within the standards of accepted etiquitte here, wouldn't you say?), or, I could draft some standard explanation/apology along the lines of "Look, bro, sorry! This was an experiment! But see? this is what we're up against!"

What do you think?

>>I could either ignore them (which seems to be well within the standards of accepted etiquitte here, wouldn't you say?),<<

No, I wouldn't say that's an accepted etiquette standard here. But of course what I've personally experienced is from my own perspective, as a woman.

>>or, I could draft some standard explanation/apology along the lines of "Look, bro, sorry! This was an experiment! But see? this is what we're up against!"<<

Has it occurred to you that other men might also have created fake female profiles for some reason? And if that's so and if you sent winks or e-mails to such fake women, could that explain you not receiving responses from them?

So what do I think? I think fake or otherwise dishonest profiles don't do any favors for members who try to be guileless. When there are already reasons for straightforward people to get discouraged and leave sites like this, why add yet another such reason?

Hun if you wanna look at attracting a woman from the competitive point of view yes this place has that game going on. Though I suppose just being yourself on your blog will probably pay off better in the long run.

aside from all your other attributes, your honesty is what has prompted me to write. I admire anyone who can be that upfront and straight forward...thanks for the refreshing change.
