American, United States of America

Wow! I just came out of some chat room and when I was asked where I was from, and I said The USA, I get this guy just arguingabout how terrible the US is. Yeah, I do think Bush went about things the wrong way, and he could have been more honest as to why we were going to war. But other than that, he has accomplished everything he has set out to do.
So that turns all American people into terrible people, lol. God, I am looking forward to going to Ireland, ha ha. They seem so open minded over there.....

I recently read McWorld vs. Jihad by Benjamin Barber. In it he describes the damaging effects that both global corporate interests and ideological fundamentalism have on the democratic way of life. The reason this analysis is so relevant, is that the ultimate effect of American interaction with the world (represented on a global scale by our media, consumer products, and popular culture) will be to further divide not only at the national level, but within each nation that we influence. Yes, to many nations we do appear spoiled, but it’s the affect that our culture has on theirs that most people have an issue with.

Being scottish living over here, the first impact that americans have on you is the ignorance of other cultures and the lack of care. You first begin to hate it and depsise it and get angry, then as a foreigner you realize that americans dont care, not out of rudeness or apathy, but really to most americans their lives are caught up in the state, county or city that they live in and nothing else matters or impacts their lives. If it were not for terrorism most people would not know or care what goes on outside their country. Europeans think they are better because they know what goes on in the rest of the world, but really they got their knowledge and interest by a mesh of fighting each other and finding out that way. To all you american haters, live here, walk here, understand then criticize if necesary. Most of your countries have less population than a state here anyway. And if you did come here, guarantee you would shop at walmart lol.

Sorry for the long post, i love blogging and write on loads of them lol

I think the most striking thing about americans (and I hate generalisations) is that they are so loud. Recently at a hotel in the country side here with my american wife of twenty years, when no less than 20 young ladies from Chicago arrived. After individually ordering and paying for a drink at the bar, one of them came over to chat to the bar man.

She asked loudly if they saw many americans here. To which the barman replied, smiling at my wife, "not many quiet ones".

On politics, I promise not to hold bush against you if you forgive us president blair.

Yes MgDingo, Most Americans are loud as hell...but, some aren't. The generalizations we've put on other countried, how foolish. Of course we forgive Blair, he's only playing follow the leader with Bush...sorry had to say it. I don't consider myself loud, but the lot of us are. It's jsut better not to generalize at all. We are all people after all, we bleed red blood if hurt, we cry the same tears....

As generalizations go, the most noticeable are loud Americans. They want attention and get it their way, by being loud.
Myself being Italian they claim most wops are Mafia.
Irish, They claim most are IRA.
Russian Mafia
Chinese as triads and so on.
Yes these generalizations but all have thread of truth to it.
Just reverse these and what do you get.
Italian Mafia, most are Italian. (Major Break Through)
IRA, most are Irish (I think there is a pattern forming here)
Triads, most are Chinese
Russian mafia, most are Russian or Georgian depending who you talk to.
Big Americans tend to be loud...
As Canadians we are taught about Europe and the USA because of our heritage, but the Americans often learn about themselves, with a sprinkle of other cultures.
Unfortunately for the Americans, the ones we notice the most are the loud ignorant ones, but as neighbors they aren’t so bad.
That’s just one mans opinions

God, I am looking forward to going to Ireland, ha ha. They seem so open minded over there

Why do they still have bombings and conflicts over there then? OK I know I will incur the wrath of the Irish for that and I apologize. If they were so open minded then maybe they could have settled their differences long ago. Every country has its open mided people and its hard asses, it's all about population. I do think Ireland is a wonderful place and the culture is way different and in some aspects it's way better, but that doens't make them more or less open minded that anyone else does it?
