DIAL UP???? WTF???

I lost my DSL a week ago, (long story), and won't be getting it back until MAYBE tomorrow.

So, I went three days without internet access. I did go over to SNL's to check email, etc., once.

I couldn't take it. I just couldn't. I caved.

I'm weak. Oh so weak.

I sign up for an internet provider, that is a major biggie in communications. I had them before DSL, and they were ok. So, for 14.95, I signed up. Seemed like a small price to pay to get back on the 'net.

Yes, well...

I sign up without a hitch. Get connected. Woo-fucking-hoo. I had forgotten how SLOW dial up is. But, regardless, I'm back.

So that was monday morning before I went to work. I was on maybe three hours. Got caught up on a lot of stuff, which was great. Came home early that night, jump right onto the computer. I'm putzing around in here, checking out the blogs, etc.

And then...

It goes down. And, I couldn't reconnect.

Even worse, my modem disappeared. HUH??? How can a modem just disappear??? So, I started to beat my head against the wall on Tuesday after I got home from work, and continued Wednesday. Headache notwithstanding, I learned a lot about computers.

I learned I am a blooming idiot.

But, even idiots can get lucky.

I "found" my modem, and reinstalled. But, now the communications biggie I had as an ISP, (albeit temporary), wouldn't connect me up to the 'net. I could get connected through their service, but, that was it. And, what's worse, their "trained professionals", couldn't even help me out. I spent probably three hours on the phone with them.

Cripes almighty.

So today, I'm about at my limit. I cancel the communications biggie, and sign up AGAIN for a new ISP, with a different provider. This one isn't all that great, but, guess what? THEY got me on the 'net.

And, that's what I wanted. Going through the DT's wasn't fun. I guess I'm pretty pathetic. I'm hooked. The keyboard is the needle, and the internet is MY narcotic.

So now, the countdown begins for my DSL to be reconnected. I miss the speed. The quick downloads. All that fun stuff.

But, for now, I've got this, and it will have to do.

Thank goodness for small miracles...

bucfannn, now this story sounds better, and maybe gave you time to reflect on your boredom with us. Welcome back and happy surfing.

I'm an internet junkie too. I can Google something, click on the link, then continue to delve deeper and deeper into cyberspace for HOURS! I know it is a sickness, but I like to think it keeps me off the streets.

Glad you're back!
