what would you rather be doing?

Today, I turned in my resignation from a job in which I've been working there for eighteen years. I am giving it all up to start a record label and produce. It has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, and I've been working tirelessly for a long time trying to make it a reality. I am throwing it all away....time invested in my job, good health coverage, stability, you name it. Everyone thinks I crazy to be doing it, but I look at it this way, I would rather try and fail, knowing that I took a chance than to not have tried at all and always wonder what could have been. To me it is a risk worth taking because the rewards out-weigh what I have to look forward to if I stay working for "Tha Man". Oh helllllll naw!! I can not see myself working for "Tha Man" until I'm sixty-five. Nope. Won't do it. I don't know anyone that made it big, that didn't take a risk somewhere along the line. I believe in me, and I believe in the gifts and abilities that God gave me. I just need to put the work in, which I haven't been able to do up until receintly because of "Tha Man"...(job) holding me back, but It's ON now!! "If" I fail, which I know I won't, I can always go back to my mediocre job, (which comes a dime a dozen) working for "Tha Man"!

After saying all of this, I will now get to the point of this whole post.

Are you happy or satisfied with what you do?

Are you doing what you always wanted to do, or are you doing what you do because it's practical or "safe and secure".

What would you be doing if you were given the opportunity?

I LOVE my job. I recently turned in my notice because my husband needed care at home and they asked me to stay on for one day a week. It was the answer to my prayers! I hated the thought of leaving. I feel like I've found my home there! Good luck to you in the music business. Sounds like you'll be on top in no time. So will we all get to say we knew you when? LOL

I did what I loved for 11 yrs but unfortunately, once I became divorced, I had to look for something I could actually make a living at.
So, I would have to say, I am where I am because it pays well, has great benefits and it is safe and secure.
What I LOVE is working with children, unfortuantely it doesn't pay well and there are no benefits. That IS what I would do IF I ever found myself in the position of being able to.

Hmmmmmmmm, maybe I should look for me a sugardaddy, LOL

All the Best of Luck to you as you set out on your new adventure! Sounds exciting!

I believe in you too! Most people are stuck in a job they hate all their lives because of the pay, benefits, etc. I say if you can find a way to make a living at something you truly love then go for it! Your right..in our profession the jobs are a dime a dozen. I love my job..I just hated the facility I worked for.

I am very proud and excited for you!!! Way to go!! It takes massive balls to chase your dreams and have that kind of faith in yourself in this day and age. I've always (mostly) worked doing the things I love (theatre, festivals, music, and hopefully one day film), but am at a crossroads professionally for several reasons. I'm debating about jumping for that big brass ring myself, although I also crave the material and financial stability I've never had. However, I also know that if I do what I love that the rest will follow, so I can't really lose. I just gotta decide which way to jump.

Way to go, man. Live the dream!!!

Holy shit!! That would freak me out.. I'm not gonna lie.. to leave the "security" for somethin' "unknown"!! I envy people that can do that with such ease!! I really hope it works out!!

And yeh.. I love my job!!

Akron~~ I'm glad you love your job and it feels like home to you....My job was the same way, I've made life long friends there and will miss everybody, but at the same time, it was never something I wanted to do. I started working there fresh out of high school and I thought to myself just a few years....but just a few years turned into 18. I guess I got myself in too much of a comfort zone there, along with some other mishaps. It took a while for me to really kick myself in the butt and get focused after so many obstacles got in the way, but I think I'm finally over those hills now.
