Goodbye old friend

Goodbye Fisherman's Wharf

My favorite beach bar just closed. It was an "old Florida" dive located directly on the beach across the street from me. I used to walk there.

Sunday afternoons they always had a live band playing from an eclectic song list that included a lot of 60's music, southern rock and, of course, Jimmy Buffett. It was always a very mixed crowd, from bikers to 50 year-old hippies to beach bums to lawyers, and doctors and such. Everyone just chowin' down a burger, drinkin' a beer and groovin' to the tunes. Everybody dancin' with everyone else.

No shoes, no shirt, no service? Hell no! Cutoffs and bathing suits, tank tops and flip flops were the order of the day. For sure there were always some drunks, but I never saw a fight break out. Everyone just got along and had fun.

They have plans to tear the place down and develop the land into hotel/retail space. The old joint will be replaced by some yuppie bar selling overpriced drinks with those little umbrellas in them.

Sometimes progress sucks...

I know how you feel, gentrification always changes the character of an area sometimes deepening it sometimes turning it into a garrish slut.

I hate that all the character is leaving this place.

Ah that sucks. Making the change moving to another town kinda sucks too. I was raised in Howell which was a really small town. A few years later after returning from Germany decided to move to next town west. Instead of a city, a community. Everybody knew everyone, everyone willing to help one another. All the nice cornfields, hay, soybeans and cows. I love cows. Moved back to Howell out of necessity, I miss the country scenes even though I live in the country still. No farming just houses. No cows. Boo

We don't have many cows here (unless you count the old barmaids with droopy tits and cigarettes dangling out of their mouths).

Boomer boomed:
...and, of course, Jimmy Buffett. ... Everyone just chowin' down a burger, drinkin' a beer and groovin' to the tunes.

CheeseBurgers? I like mine with lettuce and tomataz, Heinz-57 and french-fried potataz!

(good Gawd amighty, someone should make a song of that)

That would make a great song. Somebody should write it. I think "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw" would make another good song.

Does that mean you'll come to Tampa and be my body guard now???

rm_babyboomer26 replies on 8/21/2006 10:25 pm:
Not sure if you're referring to the beach dive or the droopy tits here, Juicy, but I will guard your body any time. In fact, if it looked like you were in jeopardy, I might just have to throw my body over yours to protect you.

My droopy tits surely you jest my dear man they have just gone south for the winter.

rm_babyboomer26 replies on 8/22/2006 8:40 pm:
Juicy, I wasn't referring to YOUR tits when I mentioned droopy. After all, would I have a screen saver of droopy tits? And I wouldn't have bothered stealing them in the first place if I didn't like 'em!
