Politically Active Sex....(an oxymoron for modern times)

I was in love with a political activist during my college years. It was not the best relationship I was in by far but it had its share of peculiarities and eccentricities. The sex wasn't that good though.

I was hardly politically oriented in college. I came from a long line of Nationalists that I had the sense to break out of the chain in time to discover a different mode of life. This move was deemed substandared by my lifelong peers but they had to acknowlege it in the end.

"He is weak!"

"He will learn!"

"Someday he will understand!"

They were right about the first two points. Its the thord I am worried about. I really don't want to understand.

Did you ever incounter a situation where ignorance was a bliss? I surely have, and I can tell you that not only is it a bliss, but it is virtually free of calories as well.

Anyway, the political activist was what you would consider a fling. A relationship that lasted about three months only because I was dull enough to think that what I was doing was the right thing.

I had heard about how in college you were expected to go through these mind expanding experiences and how you were supposed to stretch your boundaries and stuff. That I am sure I did. The problem was that with Lady K anything we did had to be related to some cause or another.

We had sex on recycled linen (or at least I thought it was sex) with Greenpeace posters of "Save the Blue" hanging from the ceiling. Our body was a temple and I was doing most of the worshipping SOLO. Kind of weird for an atheist to consider her body to be a temple of worship, don't you think.

All I can remember about those three months or so was alot of walking and allot of shouting, oh... and turtle necks were back in fashion by the way. When I heard them talk about the thousand mile march I figured it was only metaphorical. How wrong I was.

Lady K was always up front, always the one to make the posters, always the one to bring the coffee and sandwitches. Guess who had to make them though.

I finally fell out of love with the whole activist life when one day I had to sleep in a tent with about 20 other people and discover that the rest of the couples were busy as bunnies whilst the guy with the ring leadr was not getting any. Apparently the rest had had the sense to choose their mates sensibly with a balanced mix of political responsability and an active libido, whereas yours truly had wrongfully assumed that the ones on the top needed sex to sometime.

In the end what I learned was this: Be socially responsible, don't think you don't matter, help those in need, but by god GET SOME!!

Seems that those that shout the most often do the least.

Have read your whole blog and found it fascinating. Good to get the perspective of others. Have to agree with some of your comments on other blogs as well. We, the citizens of the world, are the victims of our own propaganda machines. Sickening, isn't it? Well, at least I now know that one man over there sees what is happening and is not fooled by it.

But knowlege is not bullet-proof, so keep your head down and you ass behind something hard until this is over with. Pray that happens soon. They spoke of bombs being dropped in Bierut today, and my thought immediately went to you with a hope of your safety. If nothing else, you appear to me as a face of reason and wisdom in a place of insanity. I have had the misfortune of serving in combat zones so I've been there, done that, have the t-shirt.

I find that most of the people that are politically or cause driven are just as bad as those they rant against, just on the extreme other end of things and seldom if ever a better choice than the present problem. They usually carry their own set of problems with them. All things being equal though, I have to agree that you are correct in the premise that it is always better to get a little now and then. It won't help the cause much, but it sure makes the struggle easier to endure. Later

Thanx KPB for the words of encouragement. I am thankfully out of direct harms way for now and we are keeping our heads low for the time being. I am glad you like the posts and I will make it a point to visit your blog very soon.

As for the political activism peice, I do believe that the emotional baggage and our unwarranted sense of guilt is a touch exaggerated and usually causes a counter effect and an opposite reaction from the other extreme. I always believe that a voice in the middle has the role of reconciling both ends and is indispencable in any contoversy.

Where did I learn my english?

Initially I grew up in an American Boarding school in Kuwait until the age of 13. When I came for a summer vacation in Lebanon and fell in Love with this country I decided to stay and went to the little village school. I had to maintain my grasp on the English language by doing tons of readings and writing as much. I have to say it payed off in the end.

I can't agree with you there. I could never find a way to weigh one learned person with another, let alone their knowledge in itself. We're each a different piece of the same puzzle. No more, no less.
