About Lasting Relationships

It struck me today that online dating resembles, in at least a few ways, the dating scene in the 16th century, Wm Shakespeare's time.

People had only the written word, on parchment no less, that had to be sent/delivered by courier. Of course the Internet is nano-fast, but, nevertheless, we still have to wait for a reply, from someone we haven't yet met.

My real interest in the similarities though, is that people throughout the ages have been/will be inclined to use words that are much more direct and much more passionate, when writing to a yet unknown person.

Writing words is an incredibly personal and passionate exercise - so much so, that we may be writing words that spring totally from our heart, losing touch, at least momentarily, with our rational faculties. Isn't that what love has always been about? Isn't that what we want love to always be about? Yes, but . . .

BUT, here some of us are, hoping to connect with just ONE other person with whom we can share our affections, dreams, touches, kisses . . . Pouring our hearts and souls into every word, yearning for, wanting so much for her/his reply to express just as much passion and hopefulness in return.

When it's time to meet for the first time, have we already decided, via email, that we've fallen in love? What stage is the relationship actually in, at this first meeting? ANSWER - It hasn't yet begun.

THE REAL POINT !!! Before deciding to actually meet your virtual-love in the flesh, spend however much time you know YOU need, away from the keyboard, to put the logic side of your brain into gear ‒ ask yourself, “What do I need to look for, what questions do I need to ask, what do I need to say about my intentions?" --before making a commitment that carries the potential for hurting another so deeply?

Be well

You make such a valid point kind sir , and your words are spoken with heartfelt experience it appears ......... i feel your words and most profoundly agree .......this has happen to me recently , very recently ...... and it is not a good place to be......we do indeed spend way to much time here , and if you are a beliver and true of heart then this type of thing will happen over and over again....logic has no boundries and knows no realms in cyber space, it allows you to feel and be exactly who you choose at that given moment......it reflects parts of who we are , but never really the whole picture....never really what lies beneath...... how could it ??? when there is no person to touch , no persons eyes to view when they whisper the words , that they write....no body language to see ........words are merely words at the end of the day ....... written and to be taken as only the other persons sees fit .

    Real;

    Those are questions you should be asking yourself long before any desire to meet, if anything asking directly when first starting to talk saves plenty of heartache in the long run.
Thanks for your thoughts. I can only guess that writing is a very different experience for you. Your words reflect a very practical, pragmatic, and, I admit realistic, view of romance.

Thanks again though for your comments. There may certainly be more AdultFriendFinder'ers who agree with your perspective than mine

Thanks, Sweet-

But we keep hoping, and doing, don't we?
