The New Ratings System

Well, since I can't play Battlefield 2 as a result of the stupid Punkbuster cranking out two updates in two days and none of the servers getting the second one, I figured I'd post.

So, what do we all think of the new blog rating system? Me, I'm not a fan of it. I don't really worry about my position on "The List", but I was making headway before, climbin' up that first page bit by bit thanks to a handful of devoted fans who came by every other post or so. Now, sadly, I find myself waaay back in the middle of the second page since I don't have a truckload of varied people coming through. It definitely has affected my number of visitors and commenters too, but fortunately, there are a few of you who like me enough to keep coming back. Many thanks to those that do.

I don't really think it's possible to make a fair ratings system, since whatever you use to determine popularity probably is going to be favorable to those who are already popular. This one, though, is a might more worse about it than the simple count was, as the more visible you are, the more likely a lot of different people will comment. At least if you are simply comment based, a person with a hardcore set of readers has as much chance as someone with a bunch of onesies. And, it doesn't really solve that comment whoring problem because people who post questions are probably more likely to get a bunch of random answers.

I'd like to be able to suggest a new system, but the only thing that got me anywhere was some sort of blogger voting system and even that is going to be partial to those who have lots of friends around here. I guess I'll just think on it a while...

If you get rid of the rating system then new people will find it impossible to navigate the blogs. And let's face it, the blogs are the only place you can actually communicate here.

The discussion groups are spammed by horny single guys who cannot spell or form a coherent thought because their entire blood supply has pooled up in their crotch. The chat rooms sort of stutter by, and have same horny guys and the wonderful bots trying to sell porn or whatever. Standard members can't do anything at all here so profiles/emails are pointless.

If you want to exchange ideas before fluids, you find some like-minded bloggers and chat it up. That's easy for you guys that already know the hot blogs, but for a new person like me you have to have some place to start. The popular blogs list is all we have to work with.

I think that if there was a rating system, there should be a rated number or the agree and disagree thing you can find next to someone's comment. Like those in the magazine and in some blogs.

YOu get one vote...per handle....for as many blogs you have in your watched blog list. So, if you have two blogs in your list, you have two votes. You cast your vote for a number that corespondes with how you feel...1 being boring and 5 being the best blog.

I really don't care about the activly watched blogs list. I think there should be some recognition for those who stick around, maybe have a FEATURED BLOG OF THE WEEK.

That would be better...

the new system so far seems to be the fairest,it will also encourage others to comment more if they want new uniques to comment on there's,hopefully new bloggers will get noticed because of this.

no system will make everyone happy but at least with a top list or alist, newbies can see what is going on and find that blogs are not an extension of the please i want to fuck you profiles
