Tattoos

So, yeah, this is one of those things to which I don't take well. It's one of those things I just don't understand the need for or the desire to have. I don't consider it art, and I also recgonize there's an unnecessary health risk.

Now, I try to be open-minded about these kinds of things because I don't like to be judgmental of others. And that works, for the most part, for people I don't know too well or not part of my "inner circle" as it were. But when you're like me, and your younger sibling, who's about to turn 18, announces she's going to get 12 tattoos, the feeling generated is akin to betrayal. And it really ruins your day.

So in keeping with the topic, I mind as well ask, do you have tats? How many, what of, where, and why?

(Also, I know I have been extremely lax in responding to comments, but I've also been busy and chose instead to focus on getting comments to blogs and posts here, since most of my posts only had a couple of commenters anyway.)

Tattoos were very common thousands of years ago and many had religious significance. Nowadays, it's just a fad and I feel very little of this fad can truly be called art. After 20 years, they all look like hell anyway. I have none.

What was the symbolism of the barbed wire in that particular place? Or did you just want something that looked cool?
Unfortunately, the closest thing I will ever have to a tattoo will be the scar on my foot, so I hope to be sexy enough without it

i have 2 so far, we had our wedding rings done and i have 3 daisies on my ankle that represent our girls. i have my third scheduled and it will be a long one. each of mine has meaning and i love them. my husband also has a few, there are meanings behind those as well. we see it as a form of expression. it's not for everyone but it works for us.
Wedding rings huh? Where'd you do that? And are they just circles or actual rings?

Actually, they are/were quite common in most tribal societies. Tattoos also served a similar function as medals do in our army. They also often served to "rank" various people or denote ownership and familial ties.

I've had mine (all 7 of them) for more than 10 years now. I don't regret a single one of them. I can't imagine my body without them at this point. I DO consider it art. I guess it is one of those things that if you don't get it you wouldn't understand, but for me it makes my body unique.
I supposed I can understand that reasoning, but I also think my body is pretty unique as it is.

It's just one of those things I never had done in my younger days and now I'm thinking it would be a little silly.
Heh, I think it's a little silly no matter what age you are
