Is it Real or an Illusion?

Am I the only one that thinks our society is getting more rude?? Not so much on this site maybe, but in general, it seems to me that people are getting ruder. At least on here a lot of people are on their best because … let’s face it … most people are trying to impress here!

Certainly, the people I have actually met at this friendly site are exceptionally nice! I have some dear friends that I have met here. Many people are as real online as they are ...well... in real life! With such great technology at our fingertips to explore the larger community and make friends, don't you think that everyone would use it like an old fashioned Town Square (or maybe in this case a ... gasp... singles bar)?

I may be just turning into a grumpy old fart (god …I hope not!!) but it seems that people are getting ruder all around. All it takes is a little provocation and the feeling of "being safe" and some people will let go with both barrels! I find this true on the highways as well. Drivers have far less courtesy than years ago. They feel safe in their little glass bubble and will flip the bird or cut you off without even thinking about it. Yet those same people would never do that to you in a supermarket line.

In person, we usually give the benefit of the doubt that the other person is honorable and decent until proven otherwise. We may not offer trust, but we do not assume distrust. Online, it seems that the reverse is true. We assume that the other person has a hidden agenda until trust is earned. Is this because we don’t have that “first impression” that we rely on to make judgments about people? Is that really more reliable than reading what someone has to say on a screen?

I would say emphatically yes. The small visual signals we get face to face are very important to our overall judgment process. It is easy to hide behind the computer, send fake pictures or spend hours composing a note to someone. Consequently, people trust less, knowing this and not having that “first impression” that is so important. This is true in so many areas of life.

We shop online, get customer service online, download music online and even have sex online … I don’t think THAT will ever be the same! Sorry to all you Cybersex fans, but that just does not cut it. I’ll go the old-fashioned route thank you very much! Anyway, I digress…! I have an online business on eBay. Well really just a profitable hobby. I treat my customers the same way I do in my real business. I sell items that range from several hundred to over a thousand dollars each so they all come to the table with some degree of trepidation. After a few emails or a phone call ‒ yes I do give out my phone number ‒ they feel more comfortable. In my “real” business, I sell things for many times the price, yet because it is done over the phone or in person, I never have that sense of trepidation.

Having rambled on this far…and if you are still with me I thank you…my question is this. Is online life really a better way to run the world, your sex life and life in general? Or are we running straight down that old Highway To Hell!!

WHEN I FIRST GOT MY COMPUTER I THOUGHT CYBER SEX WAS THE BOMB. THEN I FOUND PHONE SEX. THEN I TOOK THE NEXT STEP AND WENT OUT ON A LIMB AND MET SOMEONE FROM ONLINE IN PERSON. NOW MY FEELINGS ON CYBER SEX,IT IS SO LAME. PHONE SEX IS STILL OK IF YOU CAN'T GET TOGETHER. BUT BY FAR HANDS ON IS THE BEST.

I STILL DO NOT SHOP ONLINE OR PAY MY BILLS ONLINE,I HAVE TRUST ISSUES...LOL

Dear Hotnbothered, Thank you for the comments. Yes, the first time I tried Cybersex I agree it was a lot of fun. It also depends on who you are having it with, although not as much as with the real thing! And phone sex definitely takes it up a notch. But there is nothing like the thrill of meeting someone face to face with all the truth it brings!
hmmmmm ... lets think about this ... Willing to meet people from AdultFriendFinder but won't pay the phone bill online because of trust issues .......very interesting......

Dear Potown...Look at you! Woooooooo Hoooooooo! Yet another great post! Seriously, a very well written and well stated point of view! Cyber sex has never been my thing as well as phone sex. Real life sex is something that I view as a very personal and private communication. Though I'm on a sex site, I don't share publicly about my private communication. Nice job with this post! Keep them coming! Can't wait to read the next one!

Dear EM4M, Well thank you kindly mam! You are right, whatever the form, sex is a very personal thing and that is why I have chosen not to write specifically about it in my blog, other than perhaps to acknowledge it exists! - LOL.
Personally, I think any type of private communication should be just that, and in person communication is always better than the electronic type.
Now you have me motivated to actually post another one soon!

Be Well and Stay Happy!
