Bridges ... Union City to Liverpool

How her power and her passion
Ripped and ruined what there seems
Of the friv'lous face of fashion
And the dole of daylight dreams.

How, like an ardent angel, trusting
Down her virgin first time fear,
Breathed my name with love and lusting
Wanton, wild and, Oh!, so dear!

How upon that tender hill,
Bearing breezes of bright joy,
We both believed it was God's will
And "Forever" was our toy.

And, on that hill, I once grew wise.
Learned that Lust can hypnotise,
Laugh at love and long for lies,
Close its heart to tender cries
And tears that fall from teenage eyes.

How her hair fell 'cross one eye
And, peeking out from that fair place,
We shared a joke, just she and I,
All about the human race.

How, from that soft and golden fall,
Her merry eyes would dance
Beneath her secret sheets and all.
Still, I took another chance.

How mother would bring chocolate treats:
Cadbury's Snacks. Surprise! Surprise!
She always tasted like English sweets.
Chocolate kisses. Chocolate sighs.

And, in that house, I once grew wise.
How babies can materialize.
How love grows hot and how it dies.
How cursing God against the skies
Can't save the taste of chocolate sighs.
