Things I Miss...

Quite a few bloggers have been writing lists of things about themselves. I decided to write a list of things I miss.

1. My mother the way she used to be before she got sick.
2. Waking up Saturday morning and watching cartoons when I was a kid.
3. The smell of my babies' skin.
4. Rolling over and snuggling with a man in the middle of the night when I am cold or sad.
5. Crawling into bed with my parents on Sunday mornings.
6. Walter Cronkite on the evening news.
7. Family Trips in the car or motor home.
8. Swimming in moutain creeks.
9. John Elway playing for the Broncos.
10.Coming inside after playing in the snow in Wyoming and my mom having Hot Chocolate ready.
11. Cooking Sunday Breakfast for my family.
12. Fresh Sweet Corn from my garden.
13. Rotten Tomato fights after the first frost.
14. Falling a sleep in the car while someone else is driving.
15. Nursing my babies.
16. Reading Good Night Moon and the Runaway Bunny to my toddlers.
17. Grocery Shopping with a man. (I know this one is weird but hey it's the little things)
18. Watching a man shave in the morning.
19. Sex in the early morning.
20. Playing Trivial Pursuit or Hearts with my family.
21. My Grandma's Apple Pie.

Well, Minx...as time passes and things change, as people come and go in our lives, things are often missed and sometimes lost forever. The upside is that for every thing gone, something new usually takes it place. Look around you today at the things you cherish and know that tomorrow many of them will be on this list. Such is the way of things...it is the way it is supposed to be. That is why it is so important to just look around you each day and realize just how lucky you are.

I guess I should have said that I am nostalgic for those things. My mom has been very sick for many years. I wish my kids could have known her when she was healthy. She was so fun, witty and full of energy. My kids and the other grandkids have only known her as sick and unhappy. Her being sick wouldn't be bad if she was able to deal with her illness but she only dwells on the things she has lost.

I know how to make my Grandma's Apple Pie, I just wish she could be here to make it for me. She would always recite Nursery Rhimes while she was rolling out the pie dough. She was a wonderful grandma.

Reading your list is like reading a list of a happy home coming. I could lost for hours in the nostalgia of the things I miss from my younger days. I think that is one of the things that makes nostalgia feel so good though. Sitting on the couch just remembering when life was . . . different. Thanks for the flashback Minx.

I miss watching good tv - like the Ed Sullivan Show.

I miss my kids being little because they hugged me so much more.

Awesome list, Minx. I smiled for the first time today - thank you.

Honni,

You are welcome. Remembering these things didn't make me sad just nostalgic.

I like the grocery shopping also...one of the things I LOVE to do with a woman. I still buy Charity her groceries from time to time..we'll meet at the store, walk slowly, talk easily and shop until midnight...I watch the gratitude in her eyes when I'm buying and don't even care how much it costs...I load her car and get a hug. It's such a guy thing to provide for a woman. And a great thing for a woman to recognize this need we have and let us do it...
