I Love You But...

I Love You But (fill in the blank)

I love you, but not that way.
What "way" is that? Left Way? Right Way? Front Way? Back Way? As a friend? As a lover? As In love?

I love you, but not exclusively.
I love you too, but not exclusively either.

I love you, but I can't stay.
You/I must leave now. I don't want to stay.

I love you, but I'm with somebody.
I love fucking you, too bad I have to go home to my (fill in the blank)

I love you but I don't like the way you are acting.
Used with children.

I love you, but you make bad choices.
Used with family members. I want you to do what I think you should do.

I have heard or used all of these recently. It got me thinking about love and how often we clarify the level of our love to the people in our lives. Why do we feel the need to do that? Isn't just loving someone enough?

NO. Because when you say I love you but ... The I love you part is just sugar coating the pill. The info and important part comes after the but!

If you were just talking about love you would stop before the but.

I do believe you are correct in your evaluation of the sweet before the bitter.

I have no idea what it means but I have heard it too.
