Grandma has a Fall

The news is not good people. I found out yesterday that my 94 year old Grandma had a fall in her nursing home and has broken her leg near her hip. She has been operated on by now and will be in recovery for a while.
Her body is failing her but her spirit just wont quit.
We all love her to bits, but watching her slowly disintegrate before our eyes is eating away at us all.
She is a very religious Christian woman, who did everything properly and with love for her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren.
I watched her at the final viewing of my Grandpa who died three years ago at the age of 94, and I was amazed at her strength as she said goodbye to the man she had been married to for just three months short of 70 years. They dated for about five years due to the Great Depression so they were a pair for a very long time.
Grandpa went down hill fairly quickly and I sort of like to think that he held on long enough to see his "girl" was going to be looked after in the nursing home they moved into.
You can understand then how difficult we are finding the past 18 months or so as Grandma began to have more and more problems.
Mum and I have taken her for walks in her wheelchair, and one time as I was adjusting her blanket over her legs, she thanked me for being so caring, to which I replied "I wonder who I learnt that from".
We all just wish that she would let God take her so she can be with Grandpa again, by his side where she rightfully belongs, tending the garden together and growing beautiful flowers.

Please say a little prayer for her.

Sweetie, I am so sorry about your grandma. I lost mine 10 years ago and still miss her terribly. My grandfather passed within 6 months of her death and told me everyday she was calling his name so I know what you mean about wanting your grandma to find peace and be with grandpa again

Big hug,

Purry {=}

Thank you both Jim and Purry. I am glad that you both understand the range of emotions my family and I are feeling. We love her to bits and she is the kind of woman everyone should have as a Grandma, but it hurts terribly to see her going down hill in this way, she doesnt deserve this ending to her life.

Thank you TT and yes I do have lots of great memories. For the most part it is hard to separate one from the other as the were always together when I visited.

Thank you Kat; she is doing as well as can be expected. I dont think that any of us would be feeling very god if we had just broken our femur and shattered the ball joint with the hip and then undergone a serious operation.
