Step out of the box

It really amuses me when people I meet try to fit all that I am into one neat little box. People nowdays seems so intend on defining themselves and one another. Well, I flat out refuse to be defined. I enjoy my life full of contradictions. I am simply complex...

I worked as a bartender at a biker bar, I wore the tight jeans. I slammed back the shots and cussed with the best of 'em. Before that, I managed a fine dining restaruant and inn. I wore nice tailored suit dresses and heels. I sipped wine with our wealthy patrons during our off hours.

I attended college, changed my major more times than I can count, and still haven't graduated. For a while there I was back and forth between a psychologist, probation officer, or teacher. Okay maybe that ones not such a contradiction afterall.

I smoke, drink, guzzle caffeine, and smoked enough weed in college to put cheech and chong to shame. (hmmm maybe that's why I never graduated) But, yet I have a very difficult time being around people that overindulge. I also have to sit in the non-smoking section when I eat out.

I enjoy live theater. To get my theater fix when I can't make it out, I watch Phantom of the Opera. Phantom of the Opera sits in my cabinet right next to one of my favorite movies... The Jerk.

I have been known to mix a nice marsala or chiante in with prego just to class it up a bit. You scoff, but it actually tastes pretty damn good.

I love going to the spa and getting the full luxe treatment... but I am not one of those chicks that cries over a broken nail.

I love to follow fashion, but would never be able to overcome the guilt from buying shoes that cost more than some people make in a month.

I am very forgiving. It really takes a lot to piss me off. But, once a friend has proven themselves to be petty or two-faced, I ditch them and don't ever look back.

I love flying down the interstate... especially in a stick shift. I love the rush I get from the speed. When I am a passenger, I slam on the imaginary break on my side if the driver goes more than 5 miles over the speed limit.

I hate bugs, dirt, and nature in general. I love the solitude that comes from camping in the middle of nowhere.

Being crammed into one tidy little box would be boring. As my life goes on there is only one definate... I plan on becoming more undefinable each year.

Contraditions abound in all of us.. at least I know they do in me!!!

Sounds like you have a GREAT PLAN!!

It's odd seeing they way I think about many things in print, written by someone other myself. I've never taken the time to write it that way, but I pretty much feel the same. But I've come to realize that, for me anyway, it's not so much enjoying a life of contradictions - it's simply enjoying life. I like what I like when I like it. It just so happens that those things often seem contrary to eachother. I don't think there's anything wrong with that attitude. I don't see it so much as a refusal to be defined, rather a determination to live how you choose. In my opinion anyway. Nice post.
