Dedicated Citizens

It was last June and we had been on the road for over a week. My husband, our youngest daughter, two dogs, one cat, and a u-haul trailer pulled behind our minivan were heading to our new home. Tired and weary, we pulled onto Fort Lewis and began getting settled in.

A couple days later (Saturday) we were rested up and decided to leave post and explore the surrounding area. We pulled onto the interstate and came upon an unusual sight. The overpass bridge was full of people holding up signs thanking the troops. There were flags, balloons, yellow ribbons. It looked like a parade route. We honked and waved and drove on filled with curiosity.

Well, they were there again the following weekend, and the next, and the next. So we finally pulled off the road one day and walked up to see what this was all about.

They call themselves the Bridge People Regulars of Outpost 122 (I5 exit 122 that is). They have been staging their positive protest on this bridge for several years and intend on continuing until all our troops are brought home safe. These bridge people are a true inspiration. My eyes fill with tears every time I pass their bridge.

Last year for the anniversary of 9-11, they staged a 24 hour vigil on the bridge. Now keep in mind this is just south of Seattle so it is rainy and cold quite often.

I don't really think anything I write could express the admiration and gratitude I feel towards these dedicated citizens. I would encourage anyone reading this to do a search on the Bridge People Regulars of Outpost 122. They continue to inspire me more each time I see them.

Even though, I'm getting ready to leave this base, there are many soldiers and family members I have come to love and care for very much. Words cannot express the pride that I feel counting several of our country's finest as my very best friends.

It is good that we're doing a better job of appreciating the sacrifices our service personnel make to keep the bad guys away from the rest of us. It would be better if we didn't have to send them in harm's way, but I'm grateful that they're willing to take the fight to the enemy so the enemy has a harder time bringing the fight to the rest of us.

(What the fuck is this shit..?? *rolls eyes*)

Thanks for sharing all this...Sometimes I wonder if my fellow Americans really APPRECIATE the spill of Blood for our Liberties, Now I know there are some who REALLY do..!!..Ready

People bitch about gas prices yeah I know the Oil companies are SCREWING us but hey next time you need to go to the market for a few things try getting off your fat lazy ass and WALK instead...Cause as I view the war Americans are DIEING so I can put gas in my truck. For now that bitch is parked unless I have to go some where farther than 5 miles...I love to walk any ways...

Well you have got to love the American public when they show the support to the Armed Forces the way that these Bridge People of Outpost 122 have over the last 5 years. I have been here since the Bridge People started thier little Vigil and I am marveled every day that I drive across that over pass and see them there..

I Salute the Citizen's who show there support and ma proud to be part of the US Military..

Have a good weekend, cause freedom isn't free.
