Rune Meditation...

Different types of focal points at different times. I use many things to begin my morning meditation. Sometimes the sound from a musical of the set of the Zulu Bone Oracle..somtimes a tarot card..or it may be a color vibration or candle. This morning one of the set of Viking Runes.

It's name is Ansuz...

It is a Messenger Rune..and represents Signals..and the God Loki.

In drawing this means Even a timely warning is a gift. This rune may bring sacred knowledge..the message may be a signal of a new life beginning. This new beginning..brings new connections..unexpected..surprising directions and pathways.

Become more aware. Chance encounters..visits..meetings may hold information that will be of benefit.

The God Loki is the ancient trickster. When this rune is drawn..expect the unexpected. The message is always a call to a new life.

Ansuz is the first of the thirteen Runes that comprise the Cycle of Initiation. These Runes focus on the process of self-change. They relate to the need to understand and intergrate the unconcious motive and concious intent. It tells you that connection with the Divine is at hand.

If drawn in a reversed signals a need to clean out the make room for the new. There are uses for adversity. It gives time to that one can start anew.

The fourth Rune of the first Ætt, Ansuz, (also called As or Óss) symbolizes the divine force, which is also the breath or the sound of the voice of the God of Incanation, Odin, the commanding force of word or song of the All Father... The source of Od, the Odic force, sometimes known as Orgone, Chi, Prana.

Also the divine source within human beings, an energetic controller of consciousness and of all intellectual activities. As a pictograph, it signifies the mouth, both in the usual sense and of a river or estuary ("take me to the river?" ) .

Would that be
River of No Return?
Or the River that is crossed
Prior to entering the Promised Land?
Is there a difference?

This rune is named for the Ash tree, supposedly Yggdrasil, the World Tree, though Yggdrasil was more likely a Yew tree, Taxus (as in "Death and Taxes?" ) sometimes known as "Needle Ash;" and the tree of death, both by poison and the rope.

It signifies the power to rise up, also representing the spiritual power working through speech, breaking through boundaries.

The Divine breath that powers existance is most perfectly expressed by the Gods and Goddesses, not one of which, by the way, ever created a world or universe (Gods and Goddesses don't do that, the Elder forces do

Mostly quoting Nigel Pennick, above, interweaving and co-mingling his comments on several Rune Rows, or Sets... each of which was/is "Real."

Of course, with Runes, as with many other subjects, there are various sets or interpretations.

The word Rune, comes from "Runa" meaning "to murmer." Edred Throssen said that.

It's not always easy to hear all that is murmered.
It's also very easy to misinterpret...

One way to cast the runes is to toss Nine twigs
Or sticks, rather than using the usual (to us) wooden tiles
(with each engraved with one rune)....

This twig method is probably truer to ye old ways, but there is one way even older, and more True:

(The Runa Matria)

And the twigs fall as they will.
YOU look at the patterns they make
You discern which Runes have revealed themselves to you
Both singularly and in bind rune combinations.

From this technique
It is but a small "stretch" to...
Wander into the bare woods
At Mid-Winter;
Or early, pre-leaf Spring.

The overhead space is full
Of Runic patterns
Formed by the limbs
Formed by the branches of trees.

A Runic subliminal seduction
That changes and appends itself
As every step alters and
Forshortens the old
Exposes the new....

These murmurs to your soul
Grave themselves upon your subconscious
Whether observed straight on
Or by the periphial vision.

Odin and Loki
Are connected
In many ways
Is it always easy
To know which one is speaking?

I said that.

(A "Genital's" Complaint)

And outside it All
Turns a dead mudball world
With a madcap, crackpot "God"
Externally divorced
From his "Creation."

(He never murmurs, donchaknow)
In some quasi-germanic dialect
He moves His uncalloused hands
Working in mysterious ways
As He makes His magical passes
Over His ball of dead mud.

Is it any wonder
The Secular Humanists
Gave the old Boy
Their (mud-caked) boot?
