American Idol

Has this country become so self-involved that announcing the winner of American Idol is more important that what is going on in Washington, Iraq, Iran, or anywhere else that involves major happenings in the world? I can not understand why a TALENT CONTEST where the judges sit there and insult the contestants on national TV, embarrassing not only the contestant but themselves as well, deserves more air time than how many people are being killed in Iraq, as well las the goings on with the idiot in the White House. Bush goes about his day violating the Constitution, and we, as American, seem to care less. Wake up America, there is a real world going on out there and if you would just get up off your couches and get away from the TV once in a while you will see it.

ummmm woke up in a bad mood this morning my friend??

I,for one,do not need a constant reminder of what is wrong with our country..I had that ad nauseum, enough for me to actually LEAVE the country I was born in (albeit for a short period of time, living with the eskimos was not much better)..and I for one am one of those self-involved who relish the distraction of shows such as these to prevent me from going numb over how many more of our young people died this week or last week and more to come and we all know this.

At work I check the cnn site constantly..why? Because I do care..but let's face facts..not much we can do about the powers that be at this time..we must support our trooops and support our president even as moronic as we feel he is..some of us wanted him there and made sure he got their vote (I for one did not vote for him either time)..I am frustrated about things that are happening, but unless it is sending in a donation here and there, there is not much else I can do..so for me,I have the idiot box where I can turn it off visually..turn something else on to make me distracted..and at night by myself worry for our men and women who may have volunteered their services but probably did not expect to be sent to a place where you cannot even walk from one place to another without being blown up.

Scott,to feel we are so self absorbed that we place importance on the ridiculous may be a correct feelings..but what else do you want..24/7 news about who died, the price of oil, being spyed on? I for one would be extremely depressed if that was to happen..another thing to love about America..the abilty to watch the boob tube and watch whatever you want whenever you want and escape even for a moment.

By the way..the Jay Leno look alike..well,I thought he sucked..then again I thought the chick sucked too..Chris was robbed but he had the last laugh..got to sing with the band LIVE and they kicked ass..I for one was cheering and clapping when I got to see that (I finally got DVR so I will not be missing anything like that again)..it was mindless,it was entertaining and it made me forget..for a couple of hours anyway..

Hope your memorial day is great..and try not to let it get you down man..we are only humans after all..and can be quite mindless..((hugs))

Hun, I respect your opinion and if it works for you than watch all you want. I have issue with the results of American Idol being plastered on the front page of every newspaper in the country. I would much rather see it where it belongs, in the entertainment section.

Too many people in this country have taken the position of "placing their heads in the sand" and mostly ignoring what is being done to our way of life. Each day the Bush administration moves this country towards dictatorship and Facsism. I will nto sit by and allow this to happen. Iwill get out, vote and take my country back. Bush has lived off of the fear of 9/11 for the last 5 years and when his authority is questioned he brings it up time and time again.

I refuse to sit by and absorb myself in "mindless" entertainment so that I can be distracted, I want to be 100% focused on what the little asshole is doing so that my country and the freedom it was built on is not taken away. There is a bigger picture here other than how many men and women soldiers are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan, it is about personal liberties being taken away by beaurocrats that dont give two shits about us.

The real problem is that "We the People" don't feel we have a voice in the govt anymore. Our president is only part of the problem. Look a little further and you'll find a huge problem. Congress is full of greedy, self serving, self righteous, 'Ole boys club members, who don't give a damn about anything except padding their pockets.

For example: This lets you know what kind of shape our social security is in. Congressmen no longer pay into SSI. They voted themselves their own retirement plan which includes a 40% retirement raise along with an outrageous cost of living raise every year. That's right...after they retire they get a pay raise, and a nice one at that. In that retirement package it states that since they won't be collecting SSI they are exempt from paying it.

Dig a little deeper and you'll find another huge problem. They're called the Democratic and Republican parties. These 2 feuding factions have created more disasters than I care to get into. I do find it strange that every election they have their candidates preaching how they want to help the public when there's starving people living on the streets less than a block from their headquarters. And yet they're willing to throw billions of dollars into getting people elected.

Americans need to get involved and take back their gov't. If it was up to me I would fire about 3/4's of the elected officials and replace them with people who's sole interest is taking care of America and Americans.

Congress has always been this way, I am just speaking of how the government has changed since Georgie and Co. have been in office. The Patriot Act, for example includes some of the most henious violations of American' rights in the history of our country. Arresting people without just cause? illegal search and siezure of property without getting a valid search warrant? wiretapping? confiscating all of our phone records? what is this? The Soviet Union of the 1960's?????

I am talking about violating the Constitution of the United States of America. It dont get no bigger than that....

You made some valid points though, and I appreciate your comments..

Thanks for this. My thoughts EXACTLY.
