Poetry can be happy... I guess.

Crooked toothed smile, feet dangled

As we laughed at bullfrogs and flies.

The delicate shimmer of pools,

Eyes like stars,

Hearts like "Happy Birthday!"

Laughter echos-

You haunt me still.

Even as we walk hand in hand

Down to the old creek,

Pouring out eternal

The promises of opened arms

And empty fields

Filled to overflowing

With a love that knows no bounds

Your heartsong like bullfrogs

Reverberates my longing;

Your haunting presence

Stills the concentric circle pattern

Etched into the tidepools

Of forgotten youth.
