Sticking it to The Man

It's company, the beloved institution for which I have labored over the last eight years, has determined that my position is no longer vital to the success of the company. It has been explained to me that for the good of the corporation, the economy, and America itself, I must be terminated...not to think of it as being laid off, but as involuntarily throwing myself upon a live grenade for the good of my platoon...or something like that.

So, in order to forstall hard feelings, which could lead to class-action lawsuits, my beloved company has offered me this month, with pay, to look for another job...afterwich, I shall receive a severance package equalling one-third of my annual salary...all for signing a slip of paper that says I won't sue for any damages for which they may or may not be libel.

On that fine document of well-constructed legalese, I couldn't find a single clause requiring me to notify the company of the fact that I had already found a new job...indeed, I'll be working for my new employer while my old employer is still sending me checks.

God bless Corporate America!! The only land where, if you play your cards right, you can make money by losing a job.
